Personally I have nothing against peircings or tattoos. Considering that I have tattoos on my arms and back and wear an earring. However, people still have to accept even in our 'modern and enlightened age' that some environments don't accept the sporting of body art. I work in a professional environment where at times appearance is very important and the people with whom I do business may not appriate my outlook. So for the sake of carrying out that business I would wear a long sleeved shirt and remove the earring. It doesn't make me any different and before people start yelling about how I shouldn't pander to other peoples standards/perceived prejudice. Take another view. I am merely being tolerant of their viewpoint instead of demanding that they are tolerant of mine. At other times I do what I want to do and people can be tolerant of me. To me it's simply a matter of time and place. As I wear short sleeves and leave the earring in nearly all the time I think I'm getting my way most of the time so I'm content.

In Japan I wasn't allowed by the pool in the hotels as tattoos are synonymous with gangsters. Their rule, their establishment. No big deal, didn't stop me going to the gym. Here in Malaysia not so long ago a local could be arrested for showing tattoos. Same concept. Which also exists in Vietnam. The locations of my tattoos on a local vietnamese man would mark him out as mafia. However here it provides a ready talking point, as the stigma is going away from tattooing, and helped me to meet and socialise with many people. Bonus.

In short I can see the point smtkr is trying to make. Some people may not appreciate your outlook. So if you want that job maybe being tolerant of their view might be the way forward. Nothing to stop you putting the metal back in after you have landed the position providing it doesn't clash with dress codes. If it does, just remove them for work. Also, think about it. It may not be the view of the person who owns the company but the people they do business with. Besides if it's some stiff jerk who you're gonna hate, do you really want to work for them anyway?

I dont "show off" my nipple piercing. I keep it very much in my bra. even when i was on holiday i wore mainly a black bikini top to minimise the visibility of the bar through it.

Just an add-on to the above. If I was interviewing and someone came in with piercings/tatts. Firstly I'd want to know if he or she was up to the job and had the social skills to go with it. That done, if the position was such that the display of piercings and tatts would not be acceptable I would ask if they were prepared to cover up/remove them whilst on company business. If so, no problem. If not then I would tell them there and then that I wouldn't be able to take them on and why If they reconsidered, we have no problem.

ok, this thread, is a "show off" thread. However, there are reasons and meanings behind our body mods which make them more than just a reason to show off. Just because we like to see other people's mods or post photos of them on here doesnt mean that that's the only reason we have them.

People that find our body mods offensive or repulsive, i wouldn't expect you to understand our side of it, the way we see our body mods, but if you were able to just accept the fact that we like them, we have reasons behind having them and they mean alot to us, I'm sure we'd all appreciate your oppions. Instead of coming on here and stating that you think they're disgusting and disfiguring and we're only doing ti for the attention/to show off.
