what you have to remeber is people will do things they wouldn't normally if they think its for a greater good.

Most fur isn't as horrific as that clip (if its the clip i think it is, it was removed by the time i got here, so it might be different). I not trying to condon it, its just anyone who trusts PETA really shouldn't be allowed to be live past 16.

Indeed, most animals are not killed in such ways. However, I am simply stating that action must be taken against those who do cull in such ways, and that the fur trade is a bad thing in the modern world, generally. (Although I doubt it'll ever be fully removed).

Also, may I was once again stress that this is not the only such video around, there are many other examples from other organisations, so we musn't state inferring that this is simply an embellishment/out of the ordinary scenario. Even if 2% of all fur is gathered in this manner, some form of action must be taken. Numbers are not the issue here, the fact that this cruelty of this magnitude exists is.

May I ask if a mod would close this thread now, it doesn't really have much of use now that the link is gone

I won't get into this debate, but just saw it through a quick google. If it's the same one (99% sure) but that is roul, horrible, just sick.

Yes Matt, I think it is the same one, the dog looks more or less the same. Some of the places shown in the photos aren't in the video though.

Turns out it was China not Ukraine.... Easy to mix up though

Same arguements apply though, however the prospect of pressuring China into making a law which would seem so unimportant, looks much tougher than the same scenario in the Ukraine..

Xcelsion, there are FAR worse things in life to worry about, in a way i get anrgy because i'm jelous that people have such little things to think about. Yes its grusome, but this level of cruelty is illegal in most countries that don't have too little resources to spare on such un-important thigns (the animals die in the end quite quickly, so this sorta thing is no biggie).

Now it would be far more productive to shame the suppliers of the specific miss treating firms (at retail end). That is the most in-humain compies shown up to be as cruel as they are. Xcelsion, if you've got free time and want something worthwhile to do, take any skills you have and go into the city near were you live and do something. This 2% isn't worth getting in a fuss about.

While i agree that cruelty should be stopped i don't agree in supporting organisations like ALF and PETA that will break the law for what they believe in...

Like someone said before support the cause by all means but keep a level head and look at the information available from a wide range of sources

In a way I vaguely agree with you TheAnimus. Slavery is still v.v.big particularly in the chocolate industry. It is well known among large companies like Cadbury's that there chocolate is bought from slave 'owners'. They are beaten extremely heavily, not paid, barely fed - and they are humans.

indeed and you'd be a fool to think that sort of activity only goes on in other countires. Think about the morcomb bay incident in the UK.

I hate to seam un-caring its just i couldn't give a crap if an animal had an unhappy death that took a few too many hours, yes it shouldn't be going on, but there are so many bigger traversties worth worrying about.

[warning, may contain traces of philosophy]
Humans see light log, they hear log, they sense pressure log. I think people emphasise and feal for courses log, that is things have to get exponentually worse to make you feal a little bit more for them. I have no respect for PETA, for wind farm protestors, or for organic food people, they seam to want to ignore this horrific travisties they let go on in the world (like most anti-iraq war protestors, but that can be said to be due to intentions) by focusing on something that really isn't that barbaric.

There are many farms in africa where big game are bread purley for hunting, so big eurpoeans can go over and spend 20 grand to kill a male lion. I personally dont agree with this due to the fact that big game such as leopard/cheetah, eland are deminishing. There is probably more leopard being farmed than there is left in the wild. I spent 2 weeks trying to track leopard this month, and didnt come across 1. I covered botswana, zambia and zimbawee. Endagered animals like these should not be farmed and then shot for fun, they should be farmed then put back in to the wild. Fare enough, killing animals for there meat by tribes using tradiditional methods such as a spear or blade is fine, but too see videos of idiots with semi automatic rifles shooting a male lion looking the other way, really winds me up. Go hand to hand with the lion, make it a fair battle for god sake.

    I feel better now thanks

TheAnimus, may I add that your insinuation that I have free time on my hands is not the case. In much the same way you voiced your opinon on this forum in a few moments, I did the same concerning my opinion. I'm not setting out on a quest to save the animals nor am I pretending to be an animal rights protester. I am simply sharing my concern over a clearly dispicable problem.

You state that we should boycott these stores or protest? 50% of all furs which reach the USA come from China, and there is no way of knowing if a fur comes from a good farmer or a bad one. Secondly, one should not dismiss a problem due to it only affecting a small percentage of people. If you were to apply that way of thinking to life, no one would care about any crime of any sort, because the percentage of people affected by that crime would be 'too low to get in a fuss about'.

I don't support you there at all. It is terrible

However it will probably continue, where there's a demand, there's money, there's business.

I think the course of sensible debate has just about been run here. Its going way off topic.

I'll leave you with this thought. China is a big place , with a lot of people. I dont think they'll really worry too much about a fur trade embargo as they'll have a good domestic market going for it.
