Why wearing fur is bad... *Graphic*

I don't usually get angered by a gory video clip or a sad story, but the following video really struck a nerve. I implaud you to all try and 'spread the word' as it is, and at least put your names down on any fur protest petitions featured on the linked website. Everyone knows the fur trade results in dead animals, but I doubt many realise what the animals must go through before they die.

!WARNING! The following video is extremely graphic, and I advise that it should not be watched by young children, people fond of animals, and anyone who is suceptible to being somewhat squeamish

I hope the moderators won't take this down, but if you feel it is too much, please feel free to do so.

I couldn't watch the whole of that video.

They were skinning those creatures alive.

Horrific, uncalled for, and something needs to be done.

i watched 5 seconds, and had to stop before i cried. I cant start animal cruelty. I just came back from a trip to Africa, my 4th in 5 years, and tbh i can tell that the wildlife is deminishing. There is nothing more upsetting to me in the world than this. I wish there was more i could do but all i want to do atm is take a gun too those peoples head, and i would pull the trigger given the chance.

which is what Peta wants you to think. Bear in mind these folk have an agende which includes banning household pets - think very carefully before you respond to their over emotional shock tactics.

Oh of course, I'm not suggesting people go over the top to this kind of stuff

I just see the banning of fur as a good step forward, and it worries me when you see more and more 'celebrities' wearing fur publically (something which would have been unthinkable 5 or so years ago), and that this could be a trend leading us back into more substantial animal killing of this nature.

The problem is that if the fur traders do their job properly the animals do not suffer.

I'm not against fur overall as some cultures will kill animals just for their meat, so why not use the fur and bones usefully.

But skinning the creatures alive in this method is horrific.

    from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_...ent_of_Animals :

n June 2005, police investigators staked out a garbage dumpster in Ahoskie, North Carolina after discovering that over 100 dead animals had been dumped there every Wednesday for a month. [26]

Police observed PETA employees Andrew Benjamin Cook and Adria Joy Hinkle approach the dumpster in a van registered to PETA and dump 18 dead animals in a garbage dumpster behind a grocery store. Thirteen more dead animals were found inside the van. The animals were from animal shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties. Police charged Cook and Hinkle each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals.

Newkirk responded to the media attention with the statement: "PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals picked up in North Carolina are euthanized." [27] According to PETA's own filings with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in 2004 PETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care. [28]. Similar filings for the Norfolk SPCA shelter, located 3.5 miles from the PETA headquarters, show that the Norfolk SPCA killed less than 5% of animals in its care.
PETA also has a campaign "Your mommy kills animals," targeted at children, using graphic images of a woman killing a rabbit.
PETA regularly asks towns and cities whose names are suggestive of animal exploitation to change their names. For example, a campaign was launched in the late 1990s to have the cities of Hamburg and Frankfurt, Germany change their names, since the names are associated with hamburgers and hot dogs. The cities were offered free veggieburgers for all of their residents for life if they agreed to the change. Both cities refused. However, these campaigns have been effective in generating media coverage of animal-rights issues.
i'm sure a militant (in the bombings-and-killings sense of the word) vegan organisation is the most impoartial source for information on the fur trade.

Whilst I don't agree with scare tactics, I hardly see the danger in putting your name down for a specific anti-fur petition; whether it be via this organisation or any other charity.

I actually have a Leopard skin at home , but before you flame , you have to bear in mind that its at LEAST 100 years old.

If fur is farmed in a humane fashion then I can't see a problem with it , but as with anything , people will take short cuts to increase productivity / reduce costs , this time at the expense of the animals comfort.

This is why I would encourage people to buy things like Farm assured Chicken - ok so its not quite as good as fully free range chicken ( but then again its not as expensive )

but the chicken do get a bit more space , and a few toys to play with and generally a better life - it tastes better too !

I'll die before I become a vegetablist , but at least I can be a responsibe meat eater

*Picks up flaming torch and stake...*

Seriously though, I have no problem with the hunting habbits and practises of the past and any artifacts which exist from that time. However, stopping the problem in the present day should be a major priority. I'd be a fool to imply the problem could stop entirely, but I have no doubt that if a somewhat less graphic, yet still hard hitting clip of treatment like that was shown to the masses, imports of such furs would decrease dramatically. True, what is portrayed is most probably the worst of the animal culling seen in the fur industry, but the fact that such treatment to animals occurs in the first place should be reason enough to take some form of action.

    #EDIT#

And in response to directhex's somewhat flippant remark, I do not use scare tactics. I am merely showing a video which shows cruelty. Scare tactics imply that the treatment shown is either false or in the great minority, something it is not.

True, this is some of the worst footage you are probably going to see. The fur trade is, in its very roots, wrong; however I like others would be far less interested if the animals were killed humanely first. Thus, you are stating that by showing this level of cruelty, I am embellishing and therefore manipulating people into taking action. However, I am showing this level of cruelty to demonstrate how the fur trade is not humane, and how my problem is with this blatant mistreatment of animals, and to a lesser degree the fur trade itself.

Thanks for removing the link - I'd prefer 'evidence' to come from an impartial source. Animal Rights Activists/Terrorists often use pictures/video from many years ago to support their ideals today. Worse still, they think that forcing businesses to take their 'horrific acts' to other countries will help - which is plain rubbish when you realise how regulated we are here compared to the majority of countries in the world.
I'm an animal lover too but i'm also a realist.

The downside to farming is that the muppets come along and free the mink into an ecology that can't support them. Being an angler i get to see the aftermath that mink leave behind. These animals should all be killed and never brought back into the UK.

if the animals were dead before this (or killed humanely) i wouldnt have a problem with it, im sure there are places where thats common practice, to kill the animal first then take its fur

when i die i wouldnt really care if someone stole my organs and took my teeth/skin (but only once im done using them)

i really just think there should be a law against people skinning them alive, to me the only reason i can see as to why they leave them alive is for 'kicks' which is VERY sickening to say the least

i would be extremely pissed if someone started pulling my teeth and stealing my organs when im lying in my death bed before im actually dead - thats just being impatient

i feel like a bit of a sucker now for signing up on this petition, but some good will come out of it...i hope....
