hmm just how deed is this, it went pop lol

Ok so I am sitting in the office the other day, colleague comes in and tells me her PC went 'pop' I said bring it in and I will take a look at it.

Of course power supply was my first thought as no voltage is getting tothe board...soo I drop in another power supply and ding, I get light on the motherboard, so we have voltage.... what we don't have is any sort of boot up at all, nothing, nada zip, blank.

Apparently this PC went pop and the snmell of burning was in the air, now, the voltage getting to the board is good, I have reseated the ram and checked for any black marks on the board, but......I have not checked the processor as my artic silver is at home.

    Any one got any ideas?

    Its an Abit KT7.

    Thanks m@

Sounds like the motherboard is dead if it doesn't POST, chances are the PSU took it out too.

Have a look at the capacitors around the cpu and see if they have swelled out on the tops and look for any gunge around the base of them, there's about 10 of them

CPU can be dead with no visible trace of damage...
You're very lucky if it's alive

ahhh bugger, I have just taken the HSF off, although the CPU looks fine the heatsink fan is brown, all round when it was on the CPU, I think its safe to say this blew up in a pretty comprehensive way. Its almost like a deep brown which has tarnished the HSF.

Oh well looks like she needs a Mobo, CPU and power supply....
