Byatt do you go to Durham Uni?

I am going to ring up saxon to see how the deal compares to endleigh, as endleigh did seem to have everything covered. the thing that stalled me from buying was my mum saying it seemed a bit too expensive. So i looked around, and saxon came up.

The £19 looks attractive but i want to see how much that actually covers for, as there is a mention of £10000 but i shall have to see.

    I'll report back here!

    Muddy - yes mate

Dom - if you're on about saxon, that figure (somewhat crazily cheaply) is annually, afaics.

Animus - yes. I think I'm going to go back and edit that post.

EDIT: Their optional cover calculator doesn't actually recalculate the total, just sends you back to the previous page with nothing changed. Pay peanuts, get monkeys I suppose.
My uni recommends them, I did loads of research a while back to confirm they're not cowboys. Feedback came out good, didnt find anything negative on them.

As mentioned, under Norwich Union's arm so I doubt they're going to be messing you around.

£19 a year?! I would be very careful with that one, and read every last work in the small print. Students are considered high liability, so it should be more expensive compared to the same level of cover and service that a non-student would get. I dont like the look of that chaps. Be careful!

    Just an update

Saxon seems the best, best cover, everything that endsleigh offer, as well as key cover and legal fees.

It covers walk in theft etc, and the value of items up to £10000

I just feel sorry for all those people who have only had ads from endsleigh etc, have a look around, and do your shopping to get the best price!

    Ian

EDIT: I asked him about renewal discounts, and he said as yet they didnt offer any!

Also other than your PC being up to value of £1250 all other items have to be less than £500

Also it was cheaper to complete the insurance over the net, i was quoted £37 by the man on the fone, instead of £35 on the net, so again the net is the cheapest. This is so it includes my items outside of my room, i.e. my mp3 player and my glasses!

Hope all that helps - i have just bought it with my solo card. Also Saxon aren't any cowboys, and they are regulated by the FSA, they only 'appear' cheap because endsleigh are so expensive. And as the other chappy was saying Saxon sometimes offer the insurance to the universities or halls of residences, so i dont think they are cowbots dom - seriously.

Ill let you know if i do have any trouble with them!

I was looking at that, the optional £40 extra then, thats just to increase the cover on your pc?
Does the standard £48 cover a PC for up to £1250? (I'm in a private leased so its more expensive than halls ).

Actually another question is what is their policy on non-term time..
as I tend to be still in the house..
hmm.. maybe I should ring them.

You can increase the other items bit to 'less than £1000' etc etc

i am just printing out the pdf documents as reference now, explaining what i have got.

the price for me was living in the halls of residence for my first year, in durham (DH1)

    Ian

My PC is worth less than £1250 (or so i think) so i didnt need to extend mine!

EDIT: @ Starburn, i asked and the policy does cover items that are left in the halls of residences or accomodation whilst you are away etc. Also if you think you have missed something out, you can always add it on later. But if you are at all unsure just ask them, the bloke i spoke to was very helpful, if not overly so.

There is a single item limit increase, but doesnt say what the limit increase to.
Calling them on that matter now.

edit: number's not valid for student policies, fed up of companies using 0871/0870 etc

If you select the £10 'increased single item limit' , limit goes upto £1k.

@ Javalord, that number i am guessing you got from 'saynoto0870'

i tried that and it doesnt work, saxon has created another division for the student part of it all. so you will need to call 0871 230 5000 to get through to saxon about the student insurance. and you just need to hold the line, i.e. dont press any options.

Yup, you'd think being student orientated they'd at least have an accessable direct line... nevermind.

A quick way of getting past the message on the line ending with 5000 is just to press number one after a second or two, saves you having to hear the DPA crap.

    Cool Endsleigh

When I was at Uni I used Endsleigh - they were pretty much the only ppl who would insure a stoodent. They were dead expensive though.

Unfortunately the only time I really needed them was when my bike got nicked - but it wasn't covered as my housemate had left the door of the shed wide open

The Saxon deal sounds good. Students are high risk, but tbh you shouldn't have too many problems as long as you are sensible - don't leave windows open, don't go away for the whole summer leaving your gaming rig, hifi, telly etc. sitting in the house

    Mike
