    Unhappy Just failed..

    .. my driving test

Within the first 5minutes of setting off .. at a junction I stalled, and rolled back slightly before hittng the brake (at the same time he did, = fail).
    sigh.

Everything else was perfect (as of course we carried on and did the whole test, even though there was no point really ) .. which just sort of makes it all the worse.

*cry*. Next tests available are late Jan.. more money, more wait..
Don't know if I can be bothered.
I've also now got to put up with everyone I know (who all passed first time) doing this

We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

Where was this ( Cheetham Hill ? )

Have you tried Bolton's DVLA as its easier there and they might be able to get you in before late Jan

If everything else was perfect, I'm suprised you were failed on just that, how much of a roll back was it ?

Did it in Whalley Range.. my instructor wants me to do it there.

Skii: It wasn't much of a rollback; but if an examiner uses the dual controls its a straight fail no matter what.

the rest of my family passed first time, and I expected what you expect in terms of hecklers, but I live safe in the knowledge I didn't pass first time but I know I can do roundabouts. (my mum can't I swear she closes here eyes on them, its WELL scary.)

    Good luck next time fella.

Hard luck there, but you will learn for next time.

Most of my family passed first time, and I thought most of friends had too. I failed my first test on 1 too many minors, but the second managed to only pick up 3, despite clipping the kerb whilst parking. When other people found out I'd passed second time round, they came clean and told me they had too, but kept schtum about it.

There's no shame in it, you will perhaps be a more careful driver than some others because of it.

I had a friend whose first driving test lasted all of 5 seconds...(starting from a parking space at the DVLA) check outside of car, get in, adjust mirrors, start engine, reverse directly into another car that was driving past...

personally I managed it in 1, though I did nearly break the speed limit and almost screwed up the 90 degree reverse turns between the oil drums (non-uk test, may be a bit different )

p.s. dual controls? Do all people here take their test in a DVLA car? We had to supply our own (or hire one from the driving school)

Take it on the chin, mate. It's not the end of the world. Just a few more weeks to wait. Remember, you've got the rest of your life to drive a car so a couple of goes taking the driving test is something you'll forget fairly quickly once you've passed.

Kepp practising and take a few more lessons if required before the next test. Better luck next time!

The lead-time is about 2 months in Bolton at the moment, I think. Friend of mine failed his test in mid September and rebooked it for mid November.

I used to work in Moss Side and I'll admit that I kecked myself on my way home every time! Although... I did work opposite a pool club that was infamous for the amount of shootings that occurred there, plus the adjoining building was raided several times with smack and guns found... and there were syringes on the floor all around the building.. Lovely place. It's probably been cleaned up a lot since then though.

I failed my first test within a couple of minutes too!

Read a car reg plate from however many metres away - check
get in the car, adjust seat and mirror, put on seatbelt - check
    start engine - check
mirror, signal, pull out - check
indicate, then turn left - check
misjudge the turning curve on a mini roundabout, heading rapidly towards a post box, causing the instructor to cack himself and slam on the dual brakes - check

As for people I know passing first time - I know of a hell of a load of really, really bad drivers that passed on their first test. Luck of the draw really - don't give up!
