Best ebay payment method (apart from PayPal)

Well I won a keyboard off ebay, the guy has 31 feedback (100% positive), but it's all from buying, this is his first sale.. now, he doesn't have PayPal, I've left him a message saying I'm very reluctant to use anything other than PayPal, and asked him to sign up. But if he tottally refuses, what is the best payment method, eg. as in safest, fastest etc.

    Thanks

This happened to me once. I was pissed (but it was my fault for not reading the description clearly). I had to send a check in the end so I didn't get negative feedback.

Cheque's prolly the best bet, or bank transfer.

The best payment method depends on what the seller has specified in his auction. You need to find what he accepts first and then choose what is easier for you.

Postal orders are the easiest as its an instant clearance of funds, he just needs to go to the post office and cash them in.

Cheque's are easy but the seller will wait until the funds have cleared, which is usually 5 woking days before posting the goods.

Nochex is a good alternative to PayPal. As a seller, I prefer to use it a they guarantee all the payments, so you don't get chargebacks coming out your account a couple of months later and your account frozen... they work out cheaper, too.
It's well established, so it's unlikely to go the same way as the FastPay service any time soon, and some eBay sellers use it.
When buying I'd generally prefer not Postal Order (because of cost and the need to post it to them), or cheque (because of the delay)... PayPal is well integrated, although Nochex works very well if you ask them to send you a Nochex invoice.
I don't mind cheques particularly when bidding on eBay, though, as I've noticed that you'll generally find the closing price on a cheque-only item is lower than the same item available with PayPal - enough people can't be bothered with the delay and hassle of cheques that you can sometimes get a bargain by specifically watching those auctions.

used to use nochex all the time but sadly had to also move over to paypal for ebay. but want to use nochex for the reasons mentioned above. as for paying someone else I would like his name, address, and bank details to pay over the counter.........no thief likes a trail

It's your fault - you should have checked before buying
