Perehelion, Precession, increased solar activity are much more likely to be the cause of increased global temperatures. Everyone bangs on about C02 emmisions but CO2 only takes up a tiny proportion of the earths atmosphere and even increasing this by 400% will not significantly increase the earth's temperature (methane is a much more effiecient greenhouse gas yet no-one is banging on about it. The main green house gas is water vapour. Yes that's right good old H20, 99.9% of which is non-anthropogenic.)

The earth has been warming for the past 10,000 years, since the last ice age and is continuing to do so. There is no way of knowing what the natural climate cycle would be without man so there's no way of predicting what man's activities contribute to the earths climate. The earth has been warmer, much warmer in the past without the current high level of CO2, so CO2 cannot be the only driving force for "global warming" The earth typically sees a rapid increase in temperature before plunging into an ice age. Ice ages typically last a lot longer than the period of warm climate inbetween. The earths natural state could be considered a white out.

Even if the BBC's effort shows a global increase of 5C over the next 100 years it does not mean that the earth is boiling up, we could easily see that 5C increase decrease over the subsequent 100 years. Where does the current increase in global temperatures sit within the framwork of climate change over the last 1 million years? Are we about to peak in terms of temperature and go into an ice age or are we going to see temperatures increase for 500 years. No-one knows and this pathetic attempt at science is not going to change a single thing. Relying on matching 80 years worth of data to predict the next 100 years is sad.

If the model could predict the last 20,000 years accurately then I might listen to a prediction for the next 100 years but relying on the past 80 years to test the model is rubbish.

Even if this model was perfectly accurate, is it going to change anything? No. If this model predicts increases of 30C over 100 years are you going to personally change your habits? No. Those who harp on about global warming believing that man is responsible are the very same people who are contributing to it. Will they change their habits? No.

It is very simple ladies and gentlemen. If you believe that mankind is increasing global temperatures and that this will lead to disaster you can do 1 of 2 things about it.

    1. Go upstairs run a bath, put your head under the water for 20 minutes.

    or

    2. Stop consuming. Everything you do impacts the planet causing global warming (if you believe it). Do not buy another thing unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO. No more make up, no more computer bits (turn off your internet), no more making toast (it uses electricity and toasters shipped from China contribute too), get the smallest car you can and only use it when you need to, stop turning on the lights go to bed when it's dark, throw away your TV, hi-fi, never buy another CD/DVD, never buy food that isn't locallly produced (no more stawberrys in winter for you), no heating unless it's bitterly cold, wear a woollen (hand knitted, no man made fibres) jumper instead. Don't go on holiday unless you can cycle there, aeroplanes cause global warming remember? not to mention the vast CO2 output in making them, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc......

GOT THE ****ING MESSAGE YET? IF YOU BELIEVE - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND STOP CONSUMING or I will just call you a hippocrite.

And anyway, if 150 years of industrialisation is going to screw the planet over then we were doomed the minute we crawled out of the sea.

Ironically by wasting computer resources on this cr@p, if man really is causing global warming then by doing this you are contributing to it.

Its a bit all or nothing with you isnt it. Its better to make some effort towards
being more enviromentally friendly than doing nothing at all.

Don't think I was insulting anyone... and didnt think you were challenging the status quo either.
Are you sure you know what your arguing about?

Thats exactily the oppsite of what I believe.
I think we should concentrate on putting the most moeny and effort into the most cost effective (environment and people wise) ways of reducing the harm we cause the environment. One that is exhausted, work to the next most cost effective and continue worknig our way up.
Rather than wasting billions on some completely shakey theory that any predictions based upon it were 300% out.

You weren't at all insulting In fact you've been quite reasonable and are discussing this matter.
However the following people clearly aren't.

Although Stoo's one was more light hearted than the rest.

This is however normal behaviour of people who believe what they have been told simply because they keep being told it.
What can I say? Some people are easy to brainwash

I wouldn't personally agree with any of the reasons for looking for climate change. The Earth is like a lifeform, constantly changing, evolving and adapting. Over millions of years there has been a constant change in how the earth has been. The plates are moving, countries and continents have shifted, climate has changed. The Earth adapts, the Dinosaurs were wiped out (100% how we are unsure) but again the earth survived and new life thrived again.

I think the difference this time is that we are intelligent enough and have the technology around us to notice it and it scares us. Our self preservation leads us to try and find reasons so we can stop it. We can't, I personally say let it happen, if we get wiped out then that is too bad, same as the dinosaurs. Our species will die eventually, we are just another life form and have no right to be here more than any other.

What we should be doing is trying to find new energy alternatives, not for emissions but simply because they will run out at some point. Also it will improve air quality in towns and cities.

I'm not being ignorant, I just feal it is a natural process that we will have to deal with as it comes.

I have little doubt it would - especially after a night on the beers
