When selling stuff on ebay, do you guesstimate the weight?

What are people's solutions for setting the P&P price?

I didnt want to wrap the item up, queue up for half hour at the post office just to use their scales, etc

Or do they just let you skip the queue to weight things?

The Royal Mail website has all of the postage costs and weights on it.

I just weigh mine on the kitchen scales and then look it up and make it up to the next 50p to cover packaging.

I have lugged big things to the PO to weigh them (e.g. Valve amp, electonic drum kit).

Bigger POs often have a set of scales away from the counter for customers to weigh stuff.

I just try to check other peoples items..

like xboxes... £10 postage via parcel force... and it roughtly is about £8 with delivery within 5 days (usually)..

small items like mobiles phones i usually send via royal mail special delivery around £10 just so that I could claim the cash back inorder to refund the buyer (and more) if the package gets lost..

I have only on one occaision had a lost parcel... this wasnt even lost either... send via recorded 1st class and sold for £25... got refunded £28 and then about 2 weeks later had the mobile returned... sold it for £15 locally...

    ta royal mail..

I look at the other P&P costs for the same item and undercut the lot of them. Usually for games/DVDs I just do it for free, usually end up with a quid or two more in the end.

as above suggestions i use electronic scales cheap and accurate and the post office web site for determining price overall

    http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/Pr...ar=pricingcalc
    is very usefull

also i send ONLY by recorded delivery as this ensures both parties and i think it nice to send a trackable number to buyer for them if it goes missing and they know it is on its way if they are out at work they can pick it up at local p/o depot or a neighbour can sign it.never had any probs with that so far an d works out not much more for cd/dvd normally i charge £2.50 .you can pick up a stack of forms at p/o and fill them un at your leisure while packing item

Small stuff goes on the shiny digital kitchen scales, if it's something a bit crazy, it can go on the bathroom scales. I don't usually charge anything for packaging as I usually just recycle other packaging that things were shipped to me in. For example I keep a lot of the packaging from Amazon, and all the specialist boxes for things like Hard disks and RAM.

I just bung it all in the loft until I might need it, because I'm recycling it appeals to my Greenie sensibilities too
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
