    cctv

I am looking for a decent cctv system that can be hooked up into a computer because the otehr day i saw intruders at the back of my garden a couple of days ago. i have a small summer house at the back of my garden where i stay and in their i have hd tv, xbox 360s etc there and worried that one day when ic ome home from work, all that is gone.

I currently have an alarm system installed but it may not be enough so i am looking for a wireless cctv system that can connect to a PC. does anyone know any reliable sources where i can get such equipment?

Have you thought about something like this mate? I know its not wireless but its networkable via ethernet, and has motion detection. From Aria stock code: CAM-ARIA-IC100 for £39.95! (No PC required either! I think it can upload to a website!)

Or get some cheap coax and hard wire a camera to one of the cheap CCTV cards available on Ebay. (pC required to be on all the time)

In my opinion and I have worked on plenty of CCTV systems, unless you spend significant amounts of CASH, wireless CCTV systems are somewhat unreliable, cheap systems use the 2.4ghz public band, which is used by TV senders (Hence a bit insecure) and dont frequency hop when interference is detected. So your picture goes rubbish when you neighbor decides to microwave their dinner!

I have bought a few times from http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/ - I use the stingray software and have a b/w internal and a colour nightvision external.

Works a treat, as long as you avoid wireless camera's! The picture jumps alot and that is interpreted by the motion detection software as an alert!

If wired, you can get a 10sec vid emailed to you at work, or upload images to an FTP site or host your own site with full streaming video!

Cost me about £300 and great fun to set up of course...

    As for intruders, voltage FTW!

One thing to be wary of - is that unless you plump for a high quality system - often the footage will be useless. If the footage isnt crystal clear - the police will often ignore your footage.

So buying a cheapo CCTV system, is pointless. The theivin skum have to be totally identifiable, rather than a pixelated blur.
