I was 17 - my mum got me one for passing my driving test, so that if I ever got in trouble I could call and get help! (Bless her!)

Same as some of the above mine was a Motorola Flare on one2one - used to get some MASSIVE bills, that was just over 10 yrs ago.... gawd!!

Aye, the 5110 was my second phone too.

My first phone was a NEC G9D+. Horrible thing, but I thought it was ace at the time. Only threw it away recently...

Edit: I'm wrong - the 5110 was my 3rd phone, I had a 3110 first (the first edition with the Monty Python theme tune ringtone, which was subsequently removed )...

I got my first phone for my 17th birthday, it was one of those Cellnet U Phillips phones with fancy smiles and 5p texts even from abroad.

I think a lot of parents let their kids have mobiles so they can keep in contact with them, call them in for dinner and stuff!

I got a Philips U C12 phone with my barclaycard when I was 18, 5p per text on PAYG! couldnt get that deal even now! As chicken says it was even 5p abroad, I used that a lot while on lads holidays.

I bought a similar one for my g/f about a year later, was £30 IIRC. Then they doubled the price for PAYG handsets not long after because they were losing cash on them big time.

I can't remember exactly when i got my first phone. I was in 1st year at uni and hardly anyone else had one. Would have been 17 or 18.

    this is what i had

    http://www.cellular-news.com/phones/Ericsson_GA628.php

It was on a weird pre-payed contract. Cost £150 for the phone and 1 years line rental. After that i traded up to a Nokia 7110, then a Siemens SL45 (shudder), SonyEricsson T610, then my K750i (modded to be a W800i) and am waiting for either a W850 or W950
