I must say, a pda with a navigator is more appealing than a stand alone sat nav. How does the traffic alert system work in sat navs? do they come has standard or must you pay for the service or purchase a third party software?

i would like to get a sat nav with a traffic alert system so that i can avoid the nightmare of sitting down in traffic all day!! cheers

With Tom Tom, you'll need Bluetooth on the PDA and your mobile phone. You subscribe to the traffic service online, then pair up the mobile with the PDA, and away you go.

cool i looked at the prices for both the tom tom and navman traffic alert and the navman seems the better choice because you pay a fixed price of £120 for a lifetime, but with tom tom its around £80 a year.

i might op for this sat nav. is the software for this any good?

    Navman iCN-530

it needs to get the traffic data from somewhere - i.e. the intarweb. it needs to get online somehow, and a mobile is the simplest way

Yup, on the move and on the go, so that it auto updates any traffic problems on the map.
