Huh, I thought Golden Gate (what is called in 1997?) was shut down?

Anyway I also just came back from HK, Beijing, and China and I found a few places that you may like (P.S. my pinyin - english typing of what the chinese words sounds like is crap.):

    1) In China - Scen Zen where there are many massive shopping centres selling electronics and components.
    2) In Hong Kong you should go to Wan Chai where there's a computer centre - basically indoor market stores selling computer stuff.

P.S. remember as these are centres full of competitors you should be able to easily haggle the price Down!
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

You can haggle for the price, saying things like "the other store around the corner does it for....", or ask them to throw in something.

TBH, as soon as they see you are a white person, they won't move much off the price, or even try to flog you off with a higher price by saying that the price stated is for something different.
If he got the money to take a taxi he wouldn't have to haggle for price you know.
With the terror plot thing going this badly I would say its a bad idea to bring stuff back now. Even if they're looking for dangerous goods rather than valuable goods you have a much higher risk of being taxed. Bad timing since I was about to get a Merom laptop from Hong Kong.

I was over in HK in march. Had a look at the hardware in the Mong Kok computer centre and didn't find anything cheaper than you could buy here.

In any case, I wouldn't buy components as you have no options if you get it home and find out it doesn't work.

Taxis are so cheap there tho, any journey is under a tenner and the longest I went on was about a fiver, most journey were a bout a coupla quid.

anyway, MTR station is right oposite Golden anyway so its not too difficult to find.

agreed its a bad time to bring stuff back with the heightened securuty measures, glad a came back a couple of days before all this happened. just managed to miss all the delays both here and in HK due to the typhoon.

she managed to get back before all this stuff happened.

Ja3h had pegged one, and ive got the other, so altogether saved 100 quid
