I've had some fantastic ones that start with "Dear valued HSBC" customer then end "Barclays Bank" how stupid do you need to be to not notice that when you are sending these things or worse still to fall for them (I do know one person who fell for it twice and she should be baned from ever using the internet again "I did think it was odd that they used my work e-mail as I didn't give that to them"!!! )

Yeah I seem to be getting many HSBC and Halifax ones at the minute, along with a couple of Barclays emails!.. To which none of them I have an [Online] Banking account with!

So now I just forward any dodge emails onto the Banks themselves (I got the correct email address from their website).

I just follow the link and enter a load of bullsh*t, this is good because they have to got through all the replies and it wastes their time. The other favourites are the emails apparently from ebay about your account expiring, when following the link you have to enter username and password, just fill it in with something stupid e.g. tw*ttyballs and anything will do as a password, on the next screen where it asks for card details it will say 'Welcom, tw*ttyballs' much fun to be had.

This can be quite dangerous, as some of these sites will try to run keyloggers or install viruses on your machine. If you're browser security settings aren't set correctly, you could be in for a world of trouble doing this!

So I whois'd their domain name and sent their email and details to barclays.

Surprisingly, I stopped getting them, heh.

I can safely say I have never had a fishing email yet, but I really would like one just for my amusement.

phishing? Anyway I get loads of these aswell and I always follow the link and put stupid stuff in like username: Bigbird password: suckmyb*lls . Classic and it wastes the phishers time going through all this . I use FireFox and adaware so I like to think I'm reasonably safe .

I'm getting lots of paypal ones atm..dodgy as =)

But you REALLY shouldn't click the links - many of them contain javascript which can change your settings silently (for example so that if you type in www.paypal.com you actually go to a phising site), and also lots of them have a 'trigger' in the link, which lets the spammers know that your email is genuine..so you will get more and more emails.

best thing is to spot them straight off, and hit delete. Or just use gmail, which filters 99% of them and puts the rest in the spam folder

Totally agree about clicking on links. If you get any phishing emails then don't be clever and just delete them. Despite appearances some of the websites you visit will probably have aforesaid nasties lurking on them that will screw your life up if you're unlucky.

i get the same emails, and the only thing that email acc was ever used for was bigpockets mailing list. aparently, someone who worked there, stole the database, and set up his own company, then sold the database on. alledgedly.
