No offence taken, I agree with you.

It is a waste, and your right we can do 3D modeling and take high res pictures these days I highly doubt much is to be learned from watching a WW2 plane fly around.

It is a waste of resources without a doubt, but then so is my tripple monitor energy wasting gaming rig.

I just think if you want to be angry about somthing the 7bn spent on killing people (and prompting misguided british muslims to retaliate) in the middle east is much more infuriating.

    Wow...

This threads taken a MAJOR left turn...

So what you're saying is - no money should be spent on anything historic or anything that can be simulated and we should give it all to the 3rd world?

So, no more sport, no more aviation, no more holidays.... *why go when we have 3d glasses and a sun lamp*

The problems with 3rd world debt is the 1st world goverments not wanting to clear the loans they gave them. They've already paid the original loans off many times over - but they're still paying the vast amounts of interest for them.

Just clearing those would give them a more stable base to work from.

As for the jibe against education - the cold war is now part of the national curriculum so it will be taught in schools.

When the Vulcan travels around the country it will have a education centre going around with it - along with one at it's home base.

What would you prefer? Learning the history of the cold war in a class room from some dull teacher with leather patches on his elbows of his tweed jacket *or is that the dress code for geography teachers?* or actually going somewhere to see a working part of history.

Just like going to Beamish to see what life was like at the end of the 19th century or other things like that.

Anyway - this project is costing ~£6 million

Considering that major charities pump 100's of millions into the 3rd world every year - what difference would that £6 million make when £300 million makes very little?

Can't really say that I agree with a single thing you've said to be honest. Sorry.

No, just think theres better ways to spend 6million!

So, no more sport, no more aviation, no more holidays.... *why go when we have 3d glasses and a sun lamp*
What this got to do with sport? And no the goverment should encourage more 'green travel' to be developed/implenmented/used

Yes it would, but as it stands they won't, and more aid relief is needed. AND again i'm not just talking about the 3rd world... bet theres guys in your town that are homeless

Those figures are from where? 6m in aid relief is a massive amount! 6m for community projects! 6m for shelter for the homeless! The list could go on! And how much per year on top, and how much co2 + other gases + what exactly is the point except to give plane geeks something to oggle at?

    Deep guys very deep.

My 2 cents: Everyone needs a diversion in life, western culture is very different to that in the developing world. Whats wrong with spending some of our disposable income on a plane that helped maintain the peace (and hence our way of life) during the cold war. Without such monuments to history there may not have been a world to live in for us or those in the third world. Without such monuments to history, there may not have be a western world or a developing world! Never in history, aside from the cold war has the world been so close to "mutual destruction" it was only the threat of this that prevented it.

And for the record, I donate a significant portion of my salary to those less fortunate than me.

Now, can we get back on topic please?
