You know he's gonna eat the grey mince now. Can grey meat be 100% safe?

    It's fine.

Remember some meat like venison is supposed to be eaten slightly 'off'.

If it's within the USE BY date and you've kept it chilled properly then it should be fine.

If it's been frozen (for less than three months from USE BY date) and defrosted and has come out grey then it's just got freezer burn and should be fine.

    Anything else, bin it.

^Maybe the lack of a reply is indicative?!?

I've eaten grey beef before (and all kinds of horrible things in my time), it shouldn't mean it's off, as another poster said, sniffing to see if it smells off is a better test...

Of meats to eat past it's date, beef is one of the safest, but yeah, meat-based food poisoning is not nice!

Your made of meat so meat-digesting bacteria love you!

Good. Its definately not worth the risk, especially over a packet of mince. Last summer i was nearly hosptialised by a pub fry up (muppets reheated the sausages or something). I was so sick i couldnt even keep water down
    Food poisoning is very nasty

I would have thought that if you cook it properly it'd kill any nasties in there off anyway... or am I just being dense?

Some things don't go however long you cook it, I think these include E-coli and BSE.

E-Coli (which incidentally can kill an otherwise healthy adult, through kidney failure) is certainly killed by cooking. It gets into mince when the meat is contaminated with faecal matter at the abbatoir, and grey mince is no more likely to kill you than healthy pink mince.

I had food poisoning of some description once, which equated to nine days of vomiting and diahhorea (the first few days pretty much constantly) and 1.5 stone lost. How I laughed at the time...
