Ebay Advice - Received Fake Perfume

    Need some advice please

I purchased a Lacoste Touch of Pink 90ml from ebay and believe it's a fake.

The fragrance has a different smell to the Touch of Pink we already own, and it's not as long lasting.

I paid £18.50 of which 8.50 was postage charge. Seller does say in the listing he will refund cost minus postage . I now understand why he charged that much postage.

I expected it to be a tester and that's why I bought it.

I contacted the seller and his response was "I sell only genuine products. I have all the proofs. If you do not like it you can send it back."

One other person has left him bad feedback for a fake perfume.

Should I contact ebay? Any other advice?

    Thanks.

contact ebay and explain you could send it back, but being as though you believe it is fake you want all your money back.

or take it to trading standards if you can take the £18.50 on the chin and shut him down.

you could also mention trading standards and a bad feedback if he refuses to refund including postage.

A linky to the auction would be handy. If it was sold as a genuine product and you can prove it's not, then you have grounds to file an 'item not as described' dispute with Ebay.

The other option is to send it back, cut your losses, and get a refund minus postage costs for both directions. Again, you could fight for your postage, but..?
Leave appropriate feedback if it makes you feel better, but beware a retalliatory hit!

Personally, I'd just take it on the chin and give it away as a pressie to someone I dislike - £18 isn't worth the hassle or grief of the Ebay complaints system, or the risk to your feeback rating.

Good idea re: contacting Trading Standards. They did help me once to get £3.50 back from a computer company , but can understand if they can't now with their workload.

Will wait until I receive his reply to - "will you refund the remainder of £8.50 + £10 and what proof exactly do you have that it's not a fake"

First post edited with link to listing.

Main reason I don't want to leave negative feedback is because he will do the same for me. Can ebay remove his negative feedback if I contact them?

Im pretty sure that ebay charge £15 to recover your money, and they wont recover any postage costs. Paypal may do a chargeback though, so best to start a dispute.

Depends on how far you want to take it.
If you are fairly certain, report it to Ebay, the police, trading standards (if its a business) and Lacoste.

Then again, I have a Vendetta against people selling fake things as real, so my approach is probably a bit far for most people.

Did you buy the Amor Amor from presents_discount as someone's left him negative feedback for that perfume?

My nephew works in the West Mids Police.

Edit: did you get your money back?

I want to take it as far as possible because I don't rip people off and don't expect to be ripped off either.

May contact Lacoste (P&G) first to see if they can confirm it is indeed a fake.

I don't think your approach is taking it a far - it's good advice (along with the other advice received so far in the thread).

I won't take it personally , I agree it does look iffy now.

After having looked around for a bit I came across that listing and hit buy because the price was good

I think I've learnt my lesson as well.

I got a reply from the seller this morning (he ignored my second email yesterday) after I threatened to report him to ebay, Trading Standards and to Procter & Gamble.

He's offered £15. The £3.50 he wants to keep - selling fees, postage, envelope, petrol etc.

Have emailed him to ask if he expects me to return the bottle.

    Thats paypal.

I'm still slightly confused to how you know the perfume is fake. How different does it smell to the original? Its not like clothes etc where you can see bad craftsmanship or poor quality materials. I'm not doubting you at all, just interested

Trading standards would be worth a call as well. I would even suggest that you will accept his £15 but the perfume is with trading standards and he is able to contact them to have it returned. He must know its fake if he has given in so easy having specified returns conditions.
