Dell 2407, What the heck am I going to do?!

    Hey folks,

It's that time again... Stuck with a dilemma that my own geeky-ness alone cannot come to a solution; thank God for Hexus.forums!

    Anyways! On with the show...

I have a Dell 2407 monitor. I love it. I also happen to live in the countryside. I love it! " So what is the problem acidrainy?" I hear you all cry! Well, you see... I don't have any dead pixels, but I have something far worse...

As I type, there is an insect, lodged between the solid surface and the panel. How the hell do I get it out?

Well, they should be sealed units from what I gather so no insect should be able to get in there. Most folk that post here either, scare em out with bright light, RMA or live with an insect in their monitor.

Those monitors are not cheap so I'd argue the point that you've spent alot on money on their goods only to have it ruined by a design flaw that allows insects to crawl in and get trapped.

    is it still alive?

i seem to remember hearing about using a bright light on the corner of the screen or something but this was years ago.

Grab a bright torch or something similar, turn off the monitor, turn off the lights, shine the torch in the back and when they come out, turn the lights on in the room and shout "surprise" in an american accent.

If its dead, flick the screen lightly and they can sometimes drop down below the plastic so you can't see em

Just for the record for anyone else referencing this thread in the future, don't flick the screen on the dead insect! It's be permanently squashed under it then! Flick either side of it. Still, that didn't work for me - I've still got 2 dead ones from last year, though I've had none this year so far.

Last year Dell were accepting RMAs for screens with these, seemingly without question, so if you didn't fancy assaulting your screen, you'd always have that to fall back on.

Haha, that sounds so like you as well!

I can vouch for Dell's RMA though, this is actually my 4th monitor! :O

Previously I had earlier revisions (rev2 and rev3) both of which were noted for banding. Subsequently through multiple RMA's I am now on this shiny rev4, sans banding & bugs!

I'd RMA it too if Dell are not asking any questions. Unlike Sony. Had a similar problem with my current 17 inch with a bug stuck in there in April, thought I'd RMA it, and they said sorry but it's not covered for that so I had to spend a whole afternoon taking my sony apart to get the bug out, thankfully it wasn't in too far and I'd only just got the cover off and it flew out, problem solved

Re: Dell 2407, What the heck am I going to do?!

I'm going to steal this thread as the title also applies to me.

I also have a 2407 but my problem is somewhat self inflicted - I managed to flick an allen key at my monitor (don't ask) and now there's a tiny mark in the screen where the surface has been scratched. It's not the end of the world, but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to lessen it's appearance. I think I've just marked the surface of the screen, i haven't damaged any of the pixels.

I'm almost certain there is no solution. If I were God I'd have created some magical resin that I could rub on the scratch, filling the wound and reducing it's appearance. Don't suppose anyone's made this a reality? ;-)
...Thanks for breaking glass where my kids play...
