Dell 2407WFP or 2407WFP HC Monitor...Please Help Me Decide!!

Guys just wanted to ask for your valued opinions if I may please.

I've been saving for a 24" Monitor for quite some time now and don't like throwing £400+ at some new hardware unless I'm 100% sure it's the right kit for me, as I'm sure you all are too! Having used a 20" Dell for the past 2 years the obvious 'upgrade' choice seems to be the Dell 2407WFP and if I'm honest I've always liked the styling of the Dell monitors too. I know there are others out there like the BenQ and the Samsung so maybe I need to take these in to consideration too. What I really wanted to ask if you could please give me your opinions on whether to buy the slightly older 2407WFP or the new 2407WFP HC.

The much reported 'ghosting' problem on the new 2407 HC is worrying and apparently as Dell aren't going to do anything about this issue due to it being an inherint problem with the hadware the HC monitor uses I'm consdiering going for the A04 revision of the older panel before they sell out and are no longer manufactured. I just hate the thought of spending the money on something that isn't the latest up-to-date model as it were :/

Would really appreciate your thoughts on which one you'd go for and for your reasons why. Are there any owners out there of either that could share your experience? I'd love to hear from anyone that's 'upgraded' from the standard version to the newer 'HC' version especially!

    Thanks in advance guys

not really a money issue aidanjt, which Samsung would you recommend and is it really "better quality"?

I just want to initially rule out one or the other of these Dell monitors before I make a final decision as it were.

My old man got himself a 245B, and the display is astonishingly good. It's definitely up there on my to-purchase list.

Not denying that the Samsung 245B is a good monitor but disappointed to read that there's no component video input, no HDMI, USB hub and a lack of 1:1 pixel mapping so have ruled that monitor out as the extra inputs would be useful.

Any Dell 2407WFP owners out there?

Are you going to use it as a monitor, or a TV?.. Lets be serious, people buy big monitors for working with their PCs for the huge desk space. Most people who want to use other inputs will often their PC will feed auxiliary video inputs to the monitor via some kind of dedicated TV/video input tuner if they do that kind of thing because of the much greater flexibility that kind of setup affords them.

Ideally both should the need arise aidanjt, obvioulsy primarily as a monitor but the extra inputs for consoles and HD TV are a bonus and seem to becoming commonplace now on most new 24"+ monitors from what I 've seen. I'm not after a no frills budget monitor wich lacks connections and would prefer to spend the extra money to have the additional inputs that make it compatible with any other hardware I may wish to connect up to it in the future. Hope that makes sense

Well if I had to choose between £340 for a good quality monitor, plus £40 for a video input card that would let me record what I'm viewing, versus a £440 for an all singing, all dancing, lousy display, I know I'd go for the former. But each to his/her own.

Re: Dell 2407WFP or 2407WFP HC Monitor...Please Help Me Decide!!

I don't think any £440 monitors are going to have 'lousy' displays. After reading the review on The Samsung over at trusted reviews I'm not after a basic 'value focussed' monitor with minimal connections and not on a tight budget and any additional inputs are always going to come in handy.

C'mon, any Dell boys out there with some thoughts please?

More money != better quality. You said it yourself, the 2407WFP HC is noted to suffer ghosting issues, in fact this isn't anything new for Dell displays, it's pretty chronic. I don't know of one Samsung monitor that does on the other hand, a proper video input card will cost you less and give you far more functionality. I can never understand why people go loopy over a poor quality overpriced device solely because there's a few extra widgets tacked on.

who me? I just like the Dell monitors I've had in the past so my first point of call was to check out the 24" offerings that Dell did. Open to other suggestions by all means, just don't want to buy a cheap model with fewer connections is all.

Can someone who has kept up to date with monitors explain the A04 thing regarding the Dell 2407? Do earlier revisions have issues? Are there any later revisions? A summary of what the A04 brings to the table would be helpful.
