I agree with Menthel, going from a 640mb GTS to a GT wouldnt be worth the hassle in my mind.

Re: Swap the 8800GTS 640mb with the 8800GT?

Personally, if I already had a 640MB 8800 GTS, I'd wait and see what the new GTSs do, but ultimately if it were me, unless the new GTS was just amazing compared to the old one, I'd keep my current card and save up for when the 9000-series comes out (whenever that is). Crysis will still be around then, I'm sure and you'll be able to run it even better than now!

I'm currently replacing my 2001 era laptop with a new rig; last new game I could run was KotOR II. On the other hand, I'll be able to run the games I missed a top settings now. Paitence is golden. lol

However you did get a good price!
I know what your saying, but...

I'm getting an eVGA superclocked version, so I have three months for step up.

Even so when the newer 9000 series cards come out the 8800GTS 640'ies will most likely fall to the floor in price, so insted of getting one of the new 9000 series you could just get another 8800 and SLI them. But im not sure how much these new 9000's will retail for..

Re: Swap the 8800GTS 640mb with the 8800GT?

Some news has come out on the new GTS. Apparently its based on the G80 core, not G92 and has 112 SP, same as the GT and slightly higher clocks than the current GTS.

Looks like the GT is still the way to go unless you want the extra memory...
