    Swap the 8800GTS 640mb with the 8800GT?

All in the title really guys,

I have the 8800GTS 640MB, and doesn't do what I want it to do on Crysis.

I've had an offer for my card, which retails at £260, for £180, and the 8800GT is £180, therefore it's a straight swap, no money gained or lost.

The question is, would you do it?

Personally I think it's a good deal for my card, because after the new GTS is released, prices are going to fall, and I won't be able to get £150 for my card tbh.

    Cheers,

    Maj

My mate has just done the same thing but the GT was DOA...ooops

It's as much as you can probably get the GTS now from a fairly educated buyer so go for it. Which one do you have out of interest?

I have a leadtek so wouldn't expect more than £180.. but you might get more for a bfg for example.

I think you've answered your own question

For a straight swap out that's a bargain. If the 8800GT lets you play Crysis at the level you want then yep go for it.

If you want a bigger upgrade, then the new GTS is meant to be coming out in a few weeks with rumours stating that it will be quicker than the current GTX, but you probably won't get an offer of £180 then!

A straight swap with no loss sounds good to me. In fact the GT's are about £175 so you save yourself some cash.

Thanks guys, exactly what I thougt.

Well the one I am selling is quite expensive, but It is a good price, as the GT's are better, and a lot cheaper.

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

    Cheers again,,

Re: Swap the 8800GTS 640mb with the 8800GT?

I would say to the person who offered £180, "I'll sell it to you right now for £190".

If you can't be bothered to haggle sell for £180.

I think the 8800GT would be worth it as according to reviews the 8800GT is a fair bit faster then the 8800GTS, so getting a performance increase for free in the fast moving world of computer graphics cards is always good.

Cor all these gfx cards are getting confusing now. I have a BFG GTS 640mb, but here the GT performs better. How much of big increase does it have does it improve framse by say 5-10 if so i just wanna know if my GTS can play crysis on very high alround the 25-30fps mark if it can then im happy.

I still have not seen any reviews of the GTS 640mb up against the GT. Until I saw those I probably would not act.

There are some out there, cant remember where at the moment. The GT outperforms it consistently, with the only exception being WIC and Crysis at very high resolutions (2560x1600) where the extra memory it has over the 8800GT comes into play.

EDIT: Found some reviews of GTS 640mb vs 8800GT

Nowt huge but a discernable difference.

Personally (if I was in the market for a new card) I would wait for the new GTS or whatever they call it. If the GT gives slightly superior performance to an old 640 GTS then the new one should fly. And give great crysis performance. Not that I see the fuss personally about crysis.

If I wait, I'll lose around £40 - £60 on the card I have just sold, so what's the point in that?

And that is the risk. If you can sell it and then hold on for the new GTS it would be great.

Personally I would not go from a GTS 640 to a GT, the leap is not that great from the limited evidence that is around.

However you did get a good price!
