1 - 2 weeks is amazon's delivery policy. Its like this on all items, its their estimated delivery time. Usually they deliver in a few days.
If the item is in stock, they say so and it would be available by next day delivery.
They probably have several level of 'out of stock'. My guess is, if they say it's out of stock, they don't know when it will be in stock. If they say that they'll dispatch it in 1-2 weeks, they are fairly certain they can get hold of it in the coming week. Or maybe they do have it... just not in the UK. For most intent and purpose, it's more like a pre-order.
Actually, I have previously ordered something that was marked as 'available in X-Y weeks' only to be informed that they were not able to get the item as the the deadline passed by. After a few more delays (each time asking to wait for a little more time), they eventually apologised and cancelled my order because they simply could not get hold of it anymore. I don't expect it to happen here, but the fact is, they do not have it so readily available they can ship it for tomorrow.
its like that on all items?

I've finally ordered an 8800GT with Scan. I got an email advising me that a pre-order item is now in stock. It showed as in stock on Scan's site and I realise that I paid way over the odds for it (£223.11 odd for a 512MB XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX). I have a bad feeling about the stock situation as my expected delivery date is showing as 19 November instead of tomorrow (I ordered it this morning). I shall wait and see when it arrives...
I'm pretty sure that 8800GT prices will plummet over the next few days now that the 3870 is available.
Sounds very expensive Taz. Theres no way on earth I'd pay that for a 8800GT, no matter which version. I would wait if I were you, they'll come back into stock eventually.
In comparison, I paid £145 for mine, well £155 without google checkout. Thats £70 less without the discount
Yes, it is very expensive for an 8800GT but i've been desperate to order a graphics card this week. It is an overclocked version of the card though that has had some pretty good reviews. I'm more concerned about delivery rather than the price and, as I mentioned before, I have a bad feeling about getting this by tomorrow.
Hi Taz
Check your pm's !
I'm not convinced. The 8800GTs will shift more than enough purely because people see the benchmarks and buy the faster card, and that's fair enough. I think the prices are purely that high because there's less supply than there is demand. They could charge £250 and some will be silly enough to buy now rather than wait.
When stock levels come up is when the prices will lower I think.
Leadtek on scan now in stock.
heh not for long
