That seems like a pretty good deal doesn't it?

Its a decent deal, but I'd go with the ati 4870 as its almost £30 cheaper and very similar to the GTX 260 in terms of performance
I'd still go for the 4870.
The games kind of make it tempting but at the end of the day first person shooter fiends at the moment (as a genralisation) play COD4 and the 4870 is far better than than the GTX260. In most other benchmarks it evens out at about the same. Other games which are of limited interest to serious FPS players still dont warrent the still big but smaller premium.
If they bundled cod4 and crysis I'd be tempted.
There is still no comparison at current prices of the gtx280 and 260. The HD 4870 is on the heals of the GTX 280 and walks all over the 260. IMO the GTX 260 should be at the £170 price point.
Reviews I've read show the HD4870 about 6% on average ahead of the 260 and about 10-15% slower than the 280. In Bioshock in Anandtech's review it was 56% faster than the 260 :S

The 4870 is a cracking card and overclocks like a Demon. I managed to get 880/1200 from my Sapphire.
the 260 is still a very good card, and is actualy better than 4870, though 4870 still a good card.
though maybe in future the 260 could be the better once nvdia starts to use its drivers and phys tools.
end of the day if you on budget get 4870 if you got soem cash to spend get 260 then.
can somone post some good reviews of the 4870+gtx 260...not bias ones which soo many are floating around which put 4870 way over 260 which is just terrible photoshopping.
Indeed.
Who has posted a biased review of the two cards? Each site has their own methodlogy which works for them and readers are used to. They will use different test beds giving different results.
None I have read are bias, most are in favour of the HD4870, it is the better card imo.

End of the day you can't go wrong with either cards. Just a pitty Nvidia tried to sting us all with such a high launch day price. I'm sure if they had come in at the prices they have now more people would have bought there cards. As it stands now some people are upset with Nvidia and are not buying on principle. Which is a shame.
If you're willing to spend a bit more money then get a gtx 260.... i bought one literally a few days before the price cut, still a bit bitter about it but i did really need a card at that time so couldn't wait. I've overclocked my card to 720/1450/1200 (gpu/shaders/memory), getting over 9500 on the gpu score for 3dmark vantage.... that's a lot better than any of the overclocked 4870s i seen..... haven't benchmarked with games yet as I've got my last exam tomorrow! The deal clincher for me was the temperature in the end. When benchmarking on 3dmark with fans set to 40% it almost reached 90d/c but on 50% it was hovering around 75ish, 60% about 70d/c i think (can't remember). plus its a dual slot cooler unlike the 4870, means less heat building up in the case
looks like a dual slot to me.
If Nvidia had released the GTX260 at the same price as the 4870 i agree i think most people wud have jumped on board and continued sticking with them just to be safe... this is neither here nor there though. They extorted their customers and because of this lost them to the more consumer friendly company
