After a card for around £100 or so that will cope with most games, obviously not crysis at max res, was thinking about a 9800gt possibly, would it be worth spending a bit more and getting a 4850?

What games are you going to be playing.
For this price range a 4850 seems your best bet for around £110 - they also have the advantage at being awesome for hooking up to a HD TV - via HDMI with sound!

Get a 4850, but if you want to stick to the £100 budget, check out the 4830.
