Think my X1950 pro is dying :(

It gets really buggy after about 5 minutes of CoD4 needs a sit down before it'll behave again. It's getting difficult to install drivers properly too.

soooooo.... any suggestions for a decent but very budget card? I do prefer ATi, but only because it makes the water in IL2 so very very shiny

By buggy you mean artifacts? My 1950 is dying too; It is meant to be one of the first ones rushed out and seems to bake everything in my case.

IL-2 is quite old? I think the games you want to play is the largest determining factor. I tend to use this to compare cards and then work from there. The three jump rule puts you in the 8800/3850 range.

4850s are about 65 currently; not really a budget card; thats why I am putting together the pennies......

I assume the card is a PCI-E one?? Also I would make sure your PSU is fine too as this could be the cause of your issues too.

If you have a decent PSU an HD4830 will be a big upgrade:

If you want to spend less then an HD4670 is a good choice too and is bus powered:

If you do not mind buying a secondhand card there is an HD3870 for sale in the classified section for £40 and this will be twice as fast an x1950pro and is also quicker than an HD4670 but slower than an HD4830:

I upgraded from an x1900gt to an HD3870 and it was a massive upgrade in performance.
