    Ati 5770?

    Hello

I'm wondering if the 5xxx is meant to be the latest and best range of video cards?

Is the 5770 higher performance than my GTX 285? The 285 is nearly £300 and the 5770 is only £100 so it seems a bit odd

Any one mind sharing some more info ? I'm out of the loop as usual

The HD5770 is around the same as an HD4870 in most games. The HD5850 is the graphics card which is faster than a GTX285. The HD5850 retails for between £200 to £250.

    Re: Ati 5770?

Yes the 5xxx series is the latest from Ati however the 5770 is not the highest in the range.
ATi series are simular to nvidia in the first number being the series and the following numbers being where in the series is comes.
Unlike nvidia which still uses letter combinations eg GS,GT,GTS,GTX to show additional variation (although seems to have mainly droped this, it's still there but in the 200 series they don't mean much, the only 250 is the gts250, the only 260 is the gtx260)
    ATi works as so
    abcd
    A = series
B = place in series (simular to the 2nd number of an nvidia card)
C = place is sub group (ie simular to nvidia letter series, GT, GTS, GTX, etc)
D = Seems to be a just incase they need to do a revision (never seen it used yet)
The higher the number the higher it is in the series
    5770 < 5850 < 5870

One change for this 5xxx series is the dual gpu card where as before they had x2 at the end this new series is classed 1 higher in the series, so the 5970 is actually a dual gpu card.

Nvidia's new series of card looks like it's been delayed slightly, should be out Q1 of 2010

Personally I'd not bother swapping from a gtx285, unless you're having issues with it, heck that's pritty much overkill for a 22" monitor already

Yeah I don't have any noticable problems with my 285, although there is some minor lag in certain situations, with max graphics at 1680x1050 resolution, which kind of sucks but it isn't a big deal.

I was just curious more than anything.

    Thanks for the info everyone
