    New monitor!

I'm after a new monitor at the end of the month, its for my partners system which they use for digital animation. I've got about £150 to spend any advice as to what monitor to go for? I had a quick browse of eBuyer offerings but was unsure what would best do the job.

    Thanks,
    Sacred

    Re: New monitor!

If it's for pro / semi-pro digital animation, I would go for an IPS-based monitor for better picture quality over a TN-based screen. i.e. the kind most cheaper, mainstream screens are based on.

You would need to increase your budget though, to about £215-220 - an example: Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" e-IPS Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

    Re: New monitor!

Thanks for the replies guys, ideally I would like to be able to get two of them and allow for a multiple-monitor setup.
I get paid on Friday and will have a final price for my budget so will post back then, hopefully having enough to purchase two!

Also whats the difference between IPS, TN and PVA?

    Re: New monitor!

IPS and PVA panels tend to have better colour accuracy than most TN panels and improved viewing angles too. They also can display deeper blacks too.

    Re: New monitor!

Do the Dell monitors live up to their reputations as being really high quality and well worth splashing out the extra pennies on?

It depends on the model though. The Dell UltraSharp 2209WA is meant to be a decent model for example. Viewsonic,HP,Iiyama,Samsung and NEC also make decent monitors too. NEC tends to have an excellent reputation AFAIK.

The ViewSonic VP2365wb is meant to be a very good monitor for the price. You are getting a monitor with a 23" 16:9 ratio 1920X1080 e-IPS panel for around £200.

Been having a look about for the ViewSonic VP2365wb but you're right I can't seem to find it anywhere

Got my payslip today and I'll have up to £250 to spend on a single monitor, needs to be instock as its a birthday present for the 9th Feb (yes I'm cutting it close!) not worrying about a multi setup will leave that for the future. Any advice?

I pretty much have narrowed it down to the ViewSonic - it's a great price for the panel. Just cross your fingers it's in stock by the 9th

Well its listed as in stock by a seller on Amazon, I just dont know if I should trust them or not. My luck it will be the usual put its in-stock don't tell the customer it isn't then play dumb when you phone up asking where the hell your item is. Don't know how so many companies get away with it but loads seem to do it!

Tried eBuyer, novatech and scan but none seem to have it discouraging!

    Re: New monitor!

The Dell U2311H uses the same e-IPS panel as the ViewSonic VP2365wb.

    Here is a review:

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm

Dell seems to be doing an offer on the monitor ATM and you can get it for around £214 delivered:

You can also get cashback from TopCashBack and Quidco:

    Re: New monitor!

Can i just drop and say in response to the F2080, my experience with 1600 x 900 monitors has been far from pleasurable, nasty resolution to work at and i would avoid it if possible.

I have used the Dell U2311 quite a bit and i would recommend it. Very good viewing angles and colour.

A user review would be nice too!

Don't forget the cashback. AFAIK,it hopefully should be applicable to monitors too.

    Re: New monitor!

I used this code RHTB8J1BR0JC4$ to get a further discount - it came to £194.18 incl VAT and delivery

Pretty happy with that. I'll get some pics and a small review within 10 days!
