    GeForce FX 5900(flashed to 5950ultra) or 9800PRO?

hi, just wondering which card i should get, looking to spend £100(so 2nd hand) i've had a look at benchmarks and the GeForce FX 5900 128Mb seems to keep up with the 9800, but this card i'm looking at buying can be flashed to the ultra spec, which seems to do better than the 9800pro.

so in real world terms(eg far cry) which card is the better?

    thanks

    I have a 5900 flashed to a 5950 ultra and its great

betwen the 2, there wont be much in it. few FPS either way depending on benchmark.
ATi's AA is better though imo.

i would say that a 9800 Pro will thrash a 5900(Ultra) in almost anything you throw at it

Check out www.futuremark.com and go to the ORB to compare the 2 cards

It may beat it in some benchmarks, but certainly not thrash it. The ATI cards do take less of a hit when AA is applied though.
Its give and take per bechmark at standard settings. Thrashing it at "almost anything" is a bit off.

Is it new or 2nd hand though ?

I got a gainward GS, so it flash's fine, then clocks pretty high too

i have that card and it seems to go pretty well ber in mind though its the lx version with less micron or whatever and it dosent o/c alot

also make sure it does flash o.k mine flashed ok but had some 2d artifacting

price is good i suppose but i got mine on boxing day from p.c world they had that card on special for 95 quid brand new so more than likely the person who is selling it to ya got it from there aswell but i would say 95 quid is still good value

    a couple of things though

check your mobo for room the heatsink on this thing is massive and i mean massive on my old kt3 ultra it had a agp locking thing which i couldnt use cuz this thing just covered it also had to bend a capacitor and you cant remove memory modules without removing card

but like i said depends on your mobo i now have a asus e deluxe and have no probs at all

Don't worry too much about flashing it - you can overclock it to the same speeds

mine is flashed, but as a consequence I can't overclock it any further !

not all can, but most of the major brands can.
provided it has good memory, it should be ok.
