and here they are at ebuyer: https://www.ebuyer.com/1128755-gigab...070aorus-m-8gd don't be put off by the pre-order status. I would have received mine today had I not cancelled it.
FWIW when Nvidia decided to invent the founder's edition it was specifically mentioned in the presentation it was so the cards would remain in production as a premium offering. with that said, there is nothing stopping them from doing whatever they fancy. The dark side of my brain wouldn't be surprised if they halted and released a new version with a minor upgrade to cooling etc at a more current market price...
No. But then Nvidia's business model isn't dependant on retail sales. AIBs are marking up because 1) they can 2) they have fewer units to make the same revenue from.
I don't think there's much evidence of fewer FE cards coming to market yet - unless Nvidia provide that info in investor information - lack of availability can be due to demand just as much as supply, but I'd be very surprised if Nvidia weren't affected by the same substrate issues that the whole industry is suffering from.
Nvidia make a ton of money selling the GPUs on to AIBs. That's how Nvidia make money on the chips.
The cost for Nvidia to put them in their own cards is something like 40% of the cost to AIBs. Obviously they have to pay for the other components (and all other business costs), but it does mean they can charge less and be fine with it.
I've definitely been soured on a few brands and retailers over this and will be voting with my wallet when things return to normal.
Do you think the AIBs could pressure NVIDIA to kill the FEs then if they don't meet expected revenue themselves?
Perhaps not at a loss but they are certainly very competitively priced. There is a suspicion that Nvidia deliberately overdesign and underprice their FE cards to maximise positive day 1 launch reviews. There are persistent rumours that the coolers on the FE cards are very expensive and puts into question how much profit Nvidia is actually making on them and whether they intend to produce many of them. Without accurate figures we don't know but at least we can see they still seem to be producing them long term.
I can't see anyone telling Nvidia what to do. The situation does surprise me though, AIUI Nvidia hacked off the phone and tablet making companies to the point they wouldn't touch Tegra, there aren't enough electronics companies out there to partner with to afford pulling stunts like a low priced FE card that AIB market can't hope to match. That only works as long as AMD aren't a decent competitor, one day they could well be.

edit: ah, no, they were 3070s. (I thought they'd tried to create a 3060 farm )
