I'm guessing better driver support - ATi has generally suffered with poor drivers.

I would consider noise and heat issues more important than any slight differences in performance and in this respect I believe ATI is better. If a card runs hot and the cooling is noisey that's more annoying to me than a few pixels rendered differently. Also I only want to invest the minimum amount of money to get the job done because they depreciate in value relatively quickly. There are many factors that could influence your final decision and what is important to me may not be important to you. I believe in pro's and con's. There is no such thing as a BEST graphics card because everyone has there own ideas and preferences. Some have nice games bundles if you don't already have some of the games on offer.
If you wanted to choose one based on colour/color to match your motherboard I don't see anything wrong with that. All the high end graphics cards are pretty awsome but as always newer and better cards are just around the corner. I don't think SLI and Crossfire dual card solutions will last over the long term. I can see their marketing worth in pulling in punters but the heat, noise, cost and power consumption are all issues I would rather avoid. Don't believe any ads or marketing bullsh*t... look to reviews and screenshots and make your own decision about performance and image quality.
If you like a bargain and you can stand to wait for a while longer then follow the hexus bargains forum. Something usually turns form Dell, LOW, Scan Komplett etc and to my suprise even PC World have bargains.
Mabe i should just get an x800xl?

havent heard anything bad about that bad boy. go for it m8. You will get what u want from it. Infact, wot do u want in a card. starting from most important to least . Might make it easier to pick a card

You need two sticks of RAM for the dual channel. If you plan to upgrade to 2GB then 1GB stick is probably the best in the short term. If you want the best performance now get a 1GB kit 2x512MB. Who knows if and when games will need 2GB certainly not yet. I always build for the now since the future nearly always involves a complete new system build. By way of an example a 512MB graphics card will do nothing for you now and by the time it does do something there will be a much better graphics card available. Same goes for motherboards and RAM so I tend to buy only what is required to get the job done in the here and now. If you know you will need 2GB then plan for it otherwise I wouldn't worry and go for the dual channel performance. You've got the 4 RAM slots if push comes to shove.
The MX518 is a better gaming mouse with adjustable sensitivity. The MX1000 can 'lag' but only if you have a tendancy to lift the mouse during play. Some gamers find it's a problem and others don't. For safety reasons the laser switches off when the mouse is raised off the surface which is not the case with LED optics.
I like the mx1000, and i have now changed my mind about the ram, i was thinking of upgrading to 2gb, but than i thought wat u said lol

Looks like you're all sorted then. I'm all out of comments and shall confuse you no more. You seem to know what you like and obviously done your homework. As usual quality doesn't come cheap when you add up all the bits. I hope it all goes smoothly for you. I built something very similar a while back on the DFI Ultra-D no problems.
it's not. benchmarks, don't mean 3dmark with me. i was reffering to games. storm is a nub. a 6800gt is on par with a xl, a xt owns a gt.Originally Posted by nvening

The X800XL is the best bang for the buck IMO, but the nVidia cards do really well in certain DX9 games. The 6800GT is my favorite for gaming because I think it looks and performs better on many of today's games, but not by much. If you run something that just uses raw horsepower the ATI cards are faster. Also, ATI has much better drivers IMO, and the ATI cards are less likely to have stability issues.
So, if you are a gamer more than anything else I'd go 6800GT. If you are doing anything else more often than you game then the ATI is a better card.

If I had to decide between the two the same price, I'd go with X800XT.
ok. you'd rather get free dvd software and crap, than a faster card.Originally Posted by nvening
storm, dude, the 6800gt just is not better for games, i have no idea where your getting this from. for one it will get beat heavily in higher resolutions with aa/af, hell an xt would beat an ultra then.
only with d3 will the gt be faster and of course older opengl games bases on quake3 engine, but thats well old and runs at well over 100fps on x800's.
the x800xt is a steel these days, especially on agp.
Well i dont hav any good software, also the xt has no vivo. How much faster is it?
