A few places had them at £210 last week. It was going to be a case of checking every website I could think of when I actually had some cash to spare

I have been personally trying to decide which card to get, i'm in the same position, looking for something around the £200 mark. From my research i've found the 7950GT seems to be the best bet, performance is decent, it's got a bit of headroom for overclocking, it's power consumption is reasonable and it's cooler is compact and quiet. The 7900GTO has a good core clock and seems to be a hybrid of 7900GTX core speed and 7900GT memory speed (which is lower than the 7950GT) and includes the cooler of the 7900GTX in order to sustain the high core clock speed. The X1900XT is a good performer but I do have a couple of misgivings about it, the first is high power consumption and resulting high core tempretures and the cooling solution on the card is ineffective when quiet (90 degrees GPU tempreture) and very noisy when the fan is turned up to bring tempretures down.

My question regarding the 7950GT is whether or not it is worth paying an extra £40 for the 512MB version over the 256MB version, considering the maximum resolution i'm likely to use is 1600x1200 and more commoly 1280x1024.

I have a rule of not paying more than £200 for GPU . i find it works well with the game cycle.

i've always had asimilar attitude 2 gfx cards (even more of a tight wad around £150. But am about 2 update monitor shortly 2 20".

Have been looking at x1800XT, x1900GT & x1900XT. Bit the bullet earlier thiis week & went for HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB - OCUK This Week Only £234.99 was about £20 more than the std cards but decided to pay it as the cooling system is better than the stock ATi 1 in fact it's very similar to that seen on the x1950XT reference board. Very pleased with results, temps are cooler than the 6600gt it replaced, it's very quiet, & will overclock beyond the xtx.

So despite getting headache after shelling out >£200 on a gfx card i have 2 say i'm very impressed. 5241 v 1401 3dMark06 tells a story.

    Luck

Like Mobo, I have an X800XL looking at upgrading because I've been getting into FEAR and it struggles at 1600x1200 with any kind of detail. I have an X2 running at 2.5GHz to give you an idea.

I don't mind spending the wrong side of £200 to get an X1900XT or maybe a GF7900GT and overclock / tune it to 7950 speeds if it works.

But of course, will I really see an improvement in gaming speed given the processor and gfx card I currently have. If I'm only going to get say an extra 5-10fps, then I don't think it's worth shelling another £200. The X800XL would go in my GF's PC which has the nvidia 6150 chipset using onboard gfx so she'd be happy

I've been doing a lot of comparisons, and I know for Oblivion (which seems to be the hardest test for cards at the moment) the 512Mb X1900XT is easily the best bag per buck. Would need to go over £250 before anything else gave it a good run for its money.

I bought this 4 weeks ago for £160 & am very happy with it.

I was going to spend more initially but decided to wait untill the DX10 cards are about.

Just put in my order for a 7900GTO as more and more games are beginning to bebefit from 512Mb of RAM, this is to replace a 7900GT, which replaced a 7800GTX. It has been suggested that a 7900GTO could be flashed to a 7900GTX, which for £165 is an absolute bargain considering the 7900GT will be sold for £140.
