    Need External Graphics Card

Looking at an External USB Graphics adaptor...

    For example: http://www.homestead.co.uk/productca...tegoryid=55068

It's to use with my laptop to get dual screen capability - I want the laptop to drive my pair of 19" TFTs.

Anyone got any experience of these ?

Also, this device only will only run 1280x1024 at 16-bit ? would this be OK for running general web browsing/s-sheets/r-desktop etc. ? Would it look pants next to the other TFT running 32-bit ? I tried messing around with 16/32-bit resolutions last night and the difference was there but small.

Hi Barakka, Just about 2 weeks ago I tried one out at my m8s house, Its was completely rubbish sorry to say, The concept is good but it isn't practical enough. It lagged quite a lot having various windows open etc, Doing single/2d tasks it will do the job perfect, anything more and totally pants.

Hope the above helps somewhat, Im sure youll get mixed reviews

i take it you want to have two external monitors as opposed to the laptop panel and a seperate monitor?

Have you looked at the Matrox DualHead2Go?

A bit more expensive than that USB device, but not painfully so. It doesn't work with every graphics chipset, but worth a look i think.

Matrox is the way I'd go. Expensive by comparison, but Matrox stuff works. £94 from Scan.

edit: Two minds with but a single dual thought .

Heres a review of the Matrox TripleHead2Go. Same principle, just supports 3 monitors instead of 2.....

    Many thanks for the replies...

Wasn't aware that Matrox did these devices, I use a Matrox dual-head card in my desktop PC and it's excellent.

I have dropped Matrox a line to see if they know whether my laptop will support the 2560x1024 that I need... fingers crossed
(Hopefully will, it's a Nvidia GeForce GO 7400 with 128Mb)
