you mean u will see similar performance or u will see a considerable drop?
Duhh ME being thick again just re-read my post and it makes no sense, what I meant is that as I've got a 640 version I think that I'll get the same results as you (means I'll get worse results) as were both at the same resolution and I think that the 320 version is the sweet spot for that res at the moment. I just went for overkill just to be safe.
It is when your on beans on toast for just over a month, I've blown the budget completely on this rig and just want it finished now.
im in the exact same position. I just wish i hadnt been stubborn with my motherboard and gone C2D. Il probs upgrade beginning of next term when i get my loan though might get another one of these GFX cards and run SLI then when i can see the benefit. Do u reckon they will keep this model in for that long?
Performance gains are only going to be noticebale at extreme resolutions for now. The 640mb will start to shine some way down the line when texture resolutions are higher and games are more demanding generally.
If you mean the 8800 then I'm pretty sure. Graphics cards die out within a 14 - 18 months, they can still play games its just they arent manufactured anymore. as for the 8800 its the near end of the 8xxx series and I see nvidia are planning to release 8600 and lower versions to spread the pricing.
what i meant was; if im running SLI il need two of the exact same cards. So il need 2 BFG 320mb 8800gts' i mean im not the kind of person who cries when i have to turn down the res, AA and AF a little but wud be nice to know that if i decide to go C2D (or the AMD equiv if its any better) 7-8 months down the line AND i dont wanna have to buy a better GFX card, will these BFG cards still be reasonalby easy to get my hands on? Obviously u cant know that but iv only recently became really enthusiastic about this kind of thing so i dont know how often they change the production line. I imagine il be ok from what ppl have mentioned but when the 8900xx comes out i imagine the production of the 8800 will soon come to a halt.
i just wanna know that when it comes to my next upgrade, IF i decide to do it (the circumstances of games will define this really) will i end up just getting the best 8900xx or will another 320mb BFG 8800gts be satifsatory & (more importaintly) available?
ok thanks for that. might see about changing to the 640mb one then. Does anyone know a good piece of software for checking the temp of Graphics cards. Im getting some wierd lag in games and a mate said it might be down to that. Airflow is pretty good in my case, im gunna tidy up the cables to make sure
graphics card chips run alot hotter than processors, nvidia says its chips can run at up to 120 degrees without cutting out. A friend of mine runs a 6800 at 100 degrees full load and its fine.
