    320MB BFG Technology 8800GTS

I thought these cards were to be released (officially) on the 12th. However, I just looked at Scan's website and came across this:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=545050

A bit more expensive then I was expecting but it is from BFG and is pre-overclocked so hopefully others from the likes of Asus, Leadtek etc. will be sub £200.

It will be interesting as well to see the differnce the memory makes. I remember a while back when I had the choice between a 128mb and 256mb Radeon 9800 pro. I chose the latter thinking it will be more future proof but it never really gave me more than the 128mb version over the years. Oh well...

Edit: The page is now down.

Same card different place: play.com should be around the £200 mark going by scans rate.

Novatech are advertising them for £200. I'm waiting for ATI to release their cards as that should drop prices all round.

Looks like 550core/1600RAM and all for (just) under £200!
Looks like the current performance bargain to me!

    They are widely available now.

It's a tough call. I have heard a 640mb GTS can be had for about £240 at the moment and Hexus reviews suggest the improved future proofing may be worth it. I think the 8600 series is going to be very nice for the money too. NVidia really are spoiling us at the moment.

for the sake of £40 i`d go with the 640mb version, will future proof you so much more than the 320mb version ever will.

exactly, most of the newer games are gonna use higher textures, but dont forget, dx10 can utilize unused ram if u run out of gfx ram ;D

    (first post on HEXUS )

I got one of these 320Mb ones. i was planning on waiting for the ATI R600 but my bro decided to upgrade and i took my chace at gettin a little future proofed by shiftin my almost new x1950 pro onto him . Im tempted to take it back and pick up a 640MB one but thought i wud ask a few questions first. My first concern is is bottleneck, how much do u think an opty 175 (2x2.4 atm but will be overclocking to 2.8ish if poss) will bottleneck this card when it comes round to the '10' games & also would there be anypoint in utilizing my SLI mobo with these card. If sli is worth it that should solve the lack of onboard memory issue when i come round to it yes? or should i just go and switch this for the 640?

    Cheers

Only thing is it only seems to be seriously affected at higher resolutions & my monitor only goes upto 1440 x 900. I guess the only real way these can be properly tested is with DX10 games and the extreme amount of textures and geometry it will bring. Plus looking at my bank i think iv dented it enough recently

Well Ill post a couple of bench marks if you want when I get build done (second week of march hopefully) if you want as I've got a feeling we'll see the same results at these resolutions.
