Monitor shows blank mostly but everything else is working

I can boot up from a bios reset, and get a blank screen; press del and f10 and enter to reset it and get a screen. Then I can try changing the settings and get another blank screen; and keep reseting in the hope of a screen.

While the monitor makes it to the desktop aslong as some game test doesnt set the monitor to have no output, the screen works; also I had to switch screensaver on and turn power saving on the screen to off.

When the monitor doesnt display anything, the power light flashes on and off at about a 2 second interval; all I can do is reset the bios and try to "jog" it into posting with a visible display.
This all happens at bios defaults, but I do get my overclock in there by just pressing f12 and hitting enter for saved settings.

    Ive got a gigabyte p35-dq6, enermax liberty 500w, e2160, 2Gb pc6400 ram, x1900xt.
Monitor is a viewsonic vx922 19" lcd dual dvi input.

Its not a windows corruption since it does it on the bios screen, it could be either the graphics or the monitor, but I do not have any other components to swap out to test.

    Any experiences/ideas welcome.

Have you tried replacing the bios battery.....seems like it isn't holding any changes......a summary of your system would be useful

    Are you using DVI?

If so, switch to vga and see if it works.

It sounds a lot like the dreaded Viewsonic DVI bug thing.
