    Word 97 automatic backup files

Hello all, just wondering if you can help me here. My wife has a longish OU dissertation that's due in tomorrow. She's spent the last day and a half writing and then editing it. Unfortunately at about 3pm this afternoon my computer crashed (it's getting old and unreliable and will be being rebuilt sometime this week). Even more unfortunately, she hadn't saved her work since 1.30pm- and the period between 1.30 and 3pm coincided with some of her most inspired creativity- which she has now forgotten. After the crash, my ancient install of Word 97 doesn't work any more.

I've installed Open Office (which I should have done a long time ago) and loaded up the 1.30 save file with no problems, but there's work done after that time that she'd like to re-use. If anyone can give me some pointers as to where Word 97 saves its backup files on a Windows XP (w/SP2) system, then I'd be grateful. I had a look at the Microsoft knowledge base page and came away none the wiser. It is possible that when we reloaded Word in it's now totally crocked state after the crash it deleted its last automatic backup file, but I'm hoping it didn't.

    Any help gratefully received. Cheers!

Im not sure about word 97, I cant remember that far back, but some of the recent versions actually save it in exactly the same location, but just hidden.
Worth a check (Just turn hidden files off)

    My location (Office2003) is in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Peter\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

but Word97 might be in a different place.
