Hi all,
Just loaded rivatuner in vista on my Scan 8800GTX:-
Temp is 78oC idle
with ambient temp of 64oC (is this my case temp?)
Fan speed of 1616oC
Fan Duty cycle 60%
Dont 8800GTX slow clock down when in windows vista?
Thanks

Ambient temp is you case temp and 64c is on the high side. What fans are you using on your case?
8800GTXs run hot, 78c idle is a tad on the high side, but not particularly worrying.
Post back with some load temps, theyre what count.
how do i do that? just play a game for 10mins and then exit game and load riva?
These temps are quite high, of the 2, the ambient temperature is off the scale and if your internal case temperature is really that high it will be tough on your components.
What type of case and how many fans do you have May want to check that your fans are actually spinning if you do have some.
i have P182 and the 3 default 120mm fans on low speed
Unless your case is beside the stove or a radiator I cannot imagine how your p182 is over even 30 degrees C ambient, it should be down around 24-26 at idle and as the P182 is an outstanding case wont typically go much higher than 30-35 under full loads. Maybe the temperature reading is incorrect. Does the exhaust air coming out the back and top feel unusually warm ? Is your case completely enclosed in a tight space ?

just under my desk - it doesnt feel super hot - dunno what is up........
BUT im getting crashes in World in conflict :/ driver not responding and reboots......... somethings is up
your case is overheating and that is why you are getting crashes i think...how are your fans set up??
Best advice is to set your fans to maximum speed for a while, then check the temperatures again. Also make sure that you have more set to exhaust than you do as intakes (some people have been known to set all their fans as intakes, turning them into mini ovens!)
mines been in 6 months and i was concerned as to the higer than new temps.
turns out the crap design of heatsink on the 8800 is a bad fluff magnet. i took off the plastic shroud to be met with an almighty dust bunny blocking the airflow.
removed and temps dropped 12 degrees. after 6 months this is poor, downside to living in a dusty area i guess. i normally creep up a few degrees between services, but never had a temp jump that bad within 6 months.
well i dunno it goes to 82oC max load althought the fan speeds up and the fan duty cycle goes to around 90% thats in World of Conflict.........
weirdly my cpu temps when playing this only get to around 45oC
I guess it just likes to run hot thats why the fan aint going any faster at 77oC in windows.......
If your ambient was really that high then I'd expect your cpu temps to be higher than that.
In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.
it must be the way the temperature sensor is on the Gigabyte board?????
My case feels quite cool when i put my hand inside......
On a side note -
I upped my fan in windows to 100% cycle and the gpu temp dropped to 66oC and the ambient dropped to 50oC
