I've just removed a rather nasty virus off my daughters laptop, she was using norton. Does anyone know of a good anti-virus & spyware all in one software?

Kaspersky is fantastic

Don't let the price fool you (if it does) its great software. I've never had a problem with it and its very light of system resources.
I use Avast from the antivirus and Ad-Aware for the spyware. Both Free.

Nod32 Security Suite.... i love Nod32
I agree ! Another vote for NOD32 here !
You won't go far wrong with either the Kaspersky or Nod suites. ....I'm a biased Nod anti virus fan, so Nod would get the Nod from me too
Free would be: AntiVir (anti virus) Spybot S&D and SUPERAntiSpyware (spyware removal) Windows Defender (real time protection) Spywareblaster (spyware prevention)
...and even with one of the pay for suites on, I'd still put Spywareblaster on.
...and a free firewall would be Comodo or PC Tools, probably Comodo.

according to sum sites the best one is the shield deluxe 2008, is that a part kaspersky
The Kaspersky scanning engine is probably implemented, which is a good thing, it'll be similar to the free AOL product that uses the same. But that's not the full story, as the rest of it might be pants (like the AOL product - unless they addressed certain issues).
If you wanted a nailed on product that would do the job, no questions asked, then go either Kaspersky or Nod.

anyone got any views on bitdefender 2008
I did use bitdeffender for a while. It was ok, wasn't particularly intrusive like norton tends to be but I there was just a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that it wasn't quite up to the job. Thats completely unfounded btw im sure it is but that was just how I felt.
I get the impression you want an all-in-one anti virus - anti spyware suite that you can just setup and leave and it'll update, and alert when necessary. Manual updating is going to be a problem, throbinson?
What Operating System do you have installed on the laptop, btw?

Windows Vista: Features Explained: Windows Defender
have you already got Windows Defender installed?

yes i think she has
Ok, here's my two bits, between Windows Defender, AntiVir anti virus (which does a great job on general malware) - both automatic update. A decent free software firewall like Comodo / PCTools I wouldn't buy anything other than a top notch performer because between those three they offer the same protection as any other pay for software suite, and probably better than most, because they are each dedicated to doing a job.
If you could get her into the habit of using and updating spywareblaster (free) once every couple of weeks then that would be a real bonus.

ok, ill try that and see what happens save buying one, also ram it into her to check this things herself.
Thanks for your time
