Hello,
I decided to watch the movie "300" on my PC, but it's not working! I've downloaded a big codec pack but still nothing. Any idea why?
Thanks,
Steven

not sure what the problem is, but try VLC media player - Overview which plays most things you throw at it.
Nonsense, there are plenty of good codec packs around such as Combined Community Codec Pack .
Although even big wastes of space with duplicate splitters and decoders like the kilite packs won't do any harm. The number one cause of codec problems is not having the correct codecs, having too many doesn't do any damage.
Of course, there are going to be some better than others, but on the whole they are largely not worth it considering the hell that Windows makes codec troubleshooting.
Don't just take my word for it: http://forums.hexus.net/operating-sy...recommend.html
I'm curious though, can you tell me of a situation where it makes sense to install a codec pack over, say, FFDShow + manual installing the very few that won't play, if any, for the average user?
For the average user it would make more sense in any situation since it's the single install that should cover everything. That's why I always recommended CCCP it contains: ffdshow, Haali, FLV Splitter, VSFilter & MPC or ZoomPlayer along with a settings program - a one-stop solution that is better than seperate installs.
