    Popups

Can anyone help with this one please?

Until last week I the only popup blocker I used was the one with Internet Explorer. This I had set on medium and I never had any popups.

Managed to download a prog called something like admp3player.exe which Spyware Doctor identified as a nasty. I also managed to get lop.com.

I took a while but I have now got rid of them. Turned the System Restore off before running AVG, Asquared, SpyBot Seardh&Destroy, AdAware and Spyware Doctor this morning. Apart from 3 cookies none of these apps found anything.

Haven't as yet turned the System Restore on again, but I am still getting popups.

I have downloaded the Google Popup blocker, but it could not stop them. If I put the IE blocker on max I can stop them, but it stops everything, even stuff I want to see.

Each popup I see I add its name to the Hosts file, but there must be a better way of stopping these things

    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    TIA

    Re: Popups

Tried the links and ran HijackThis. Found an entry for the dodgy mp3play file. Got HijackThis to fix it - PC back to normal again.

    Many thanks

    Re: Popups

I have honestly not seen a single popup since I have edited my HOSTS file and I do not use any additional popup software

The following site maintains a HOSTS file which is free to download and is kept up to date with all the known ad servers.

I won't attempt to explain how it works as they do a better job.

OK I cant post URL's till I hit 5 posts but Google "hosts file" and i tshould be the second entry (mvps.org... etc)
