Importing Single Mail Folders into Thunderbird

    Hi,

We had a problem with Outlook Express a few days ago so we swapped to Thunderbird which has so far has had no real problems but now we are stuck and need a hand working out what to do.

At first we just went Tools--->Import---> Email';---> Outlook Express

But now we have a backed up sent file in Outlook Express .dbx format but we don't know how to import it because if we import Outlook Express again our current Mail Folders will be overwritten by the older ones. Wee just want to import the sent items.

I read someone had to uninstall Outlook Express so there was no longer a file association so they could browse to the specified mail folder but I would like to do this an easier way and don't ahev the disk for Outlook Express any more.

    Thanks,

    Tim

I'm not sure you can uninstall Outllok express - it is embeded pretty closely with Internet Explorer, which itself is integrated pretty closely with Windows. You may be able to break the file associations by editing the file types (in folder options) but I don't know if that would help. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I gave up using Outlook express a long time ago, and I haven't used Thunderbird e mail client at all.

A google search using this search phrase

importing outlook express mail folders into thunderbird

gave a lot of potentially useful articles which you might find helpful. (I don't have time to scan them all)

Alternatively you might be able to export the new e mails in thunderbird back to OE, and then re-import - but copy or backup the OE files first - then you can always go back to the originals if it all goes horribly wrong.
