Hi All,
I seem to be having a small and curious problem. I have been checking out my USB ports, after Vista (Ultimate 32 bit) suddenly came up and said that one of my devices could work faster if it was plugged into a USB2.0 port.
This confused me slightly, as I though all my ports were USB2.0. I checked the manual of my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (rev 1.0), and sure enough it says that the motherboard has 4 x USB2.0/1.1 on the rear panel, and 3 x USB2.0/1.1 connectors on board for up to 6 additional ports.
I checked my BIOS (F12), and sure enough, it is set to enable high speed USB, but when I check out my device manager i have the following in the USB section:
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2830
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2831
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2832
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2834
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2835
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 2836
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 283A
....plus 7 USB root hubs, a composite device (my logitech wireless K/B & mouse), and printing support devices below.
So there appears to be 2 problems - there is only 7 USB controllers there (not 10 - I have 10 USB ports, so should have 10 controllers, right?), and only 2 of them appear to be USB 2.0, when all of them should be!!
Can anyone help me - maybe I've got it all wrong, but something doesn't feel right to me, and Vista says that the device is plugged into a slow USB port!! Many thanks in advance,
Cocksy
