Exclamation "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

    Hey guys,

I installed a new video card a while ago (a year ago probs) and everything all worked fine. Recently I unplugged my computer and moved it to paint my room. When i put it back i plugged the monitor cable into the video card and plugged everything else in and turned it on to get a no signal appearing on the screen. I thought to myself AH this again - i had this problem before and i simply went into device manager (with the monitor plugged into the onboard graphics) and click disable on the on board graphics. It would then ask me to restart my computer - i would do so and take the cable out of the on board and put it in the dedicated graphics card (8600gt), and it would usually work.

I tried this but to no prevail. I have reseated the graphics card, restarted, system restored. Nothing seems to work. After unplugging and moving the computer to paint my room, the graphics card is not giving out a signal?? Im posting this with the monitor plugged into the onboard graphics - its fine but the resolution is smaller than im used to ect and i cant play my games using the onboard.

    Would appreciate any help,

    thanks

    Grant

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

If it occurred after physicallymoving the computer, the cause is likely to be mecahnically related. You say you have tried reseating the card - check any auxiliary power connectors, and check that the monitor is connected to correct socket on the card (if there is more than one.

Also check that you have fitted the plug correctly and it is fully home - and that you have selected the correct input (if it has more than one) on the monitor.

If none of those suggestions work, then check all the connections, plugs etc in the commputer.

Its a PCI express card so it has no power connecters - it just slots straight into the slot. Do you think taking it out again and putting it back in will make a difference?

most GFX cards now do have an auxillary Power supply..... i think this is where your going wrong... (not sure about the 8600gt though, but my 8600gts does have one)
check the gfx card for a 6/4 pin connection point

I don't know! (my super powers are weakened by a kryptonite storm ) - try it and see - I suggested it as one possible cause. I suggested other things to look at.

Not sure what make of card yours is, but a quick google shows that most 8600gt cards rseem to equire an auxiliary power supply.

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

hmmm, your right, that particular card doesn't seem to have an auxillary power connector...
you don't by any chance have a molex cable plugged into the motherboard near the PCI-e slot do you?

do you have another system to try the GFX card in? (to ensure that the card is not faulty)

do you have two devices to plug in at the same time? (to ensure the output is not on the separate port)

    failing those...

reinstall the nVidia drivers... as it has been known for things like this to happen (has happened to me)

well i will try re seating the card again - but the drivers dont seem to want to install

I dont think the computer actually detects the card cos the installation with the driver disk says no drivers that match ur current hardware setup

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

You say your typing this message using the onboard VGA, i take it your 8600gt is not connected then? or am i wrong just trying to get a picture of what your problem is.

Also when you have the 8600gt plugged in and turn the pc on is there any "Error Beeps" and does the fan spin on the gfx card?

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

thats pretty strange, if the 8600gt is plugged in usually it take priority and you wont get a signal from the onboard VGA Connector, what motherboard are you using?

Dont take this wrong way im not trying to teach you to suck eggs but is the GFX card inserted correctly? pushed in far enough etc, can you see any parts of the gold connectors on the Gfx card?

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

Is there a bios selction to disable onboard VGA (or enable external)? This is clutching at straws though as you said it was working before you moved it. Did you check that the monitor cable is pushed fully home on the GPU output?

Re: "No Signal" on monitor HELP PLEASE!

    Hey guys,

sorry i havnt had much time to reply lately - been so busy. But i took my graphics card out and put it back in again after cleaning the connections, and hey presto it works fine!

Thanks very much for all of your help.

Just one more small problem though...

This morning i saw a fly crawling around in my monitor screen, under the panel. So i pressed on the screen to squish it to stop it going closer to the center of the screen. Does anyone have any idea how i can remove a fly from my monitor? Its a flatscreen acer x223w.
