Ok, so basically, my aunt got herself a webcam a while ago that she now told me doesn't work. Her English isn't brill so I couldn't quite figure out what she said was wrong, so I just took a look.
Plugging it in shows that it is recognised under the Device Manager under 'Other Devices' as a USB PC camera, but it has no driver. So, I double clicked it and hit reinstall driver, and went through all the options there and it basically said 'no driver found'.
I managed to find the driver CD, so i installed drivers from there, and then wanted to test the webcam. Knowing no other way, I opened MSN messenger (or Windows Live! Messenger if you want to be technical) and started a webcam thing with a random contact and went through its set up. Through it, it checked the speakers were working, the microphone built into the webcam was working, and then the picture. According to the software, everything was working, but the sample image was all black. I've been to the website, downoaded the latest drivers, but still the same problem. When I try to open the webcam via My Computer, and the screen where the image should appear just hangs, ruling out ( does it?) something wrong with the lense, or me doing something stupid like leaving the lense cap on [I did do that infact, but the problem persisted after I removed it].
In My Computer, going Right Click > Properties >Test device, it says device working normally etc.
Any Ideas then?
