Can anyone explain why my PC is being slow?

So when i was typing in msn it was quite sluggish and i just did this aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and it typed it somewhat slowly, lagged a little?

It is quite laggy when typing it on here. Anyway, so i ctrl alt delete and a lot of the processes have *32 next to them...

Now i am running vista 64bit edition with 4gigs of ram and a q6600. Is this normal...?

If not could anyone explain how to remedy the problem?

    Thanks

I can't tell you why your system is being sluggish, but the processes with *32 next to them are all 32bit processes.

What is the complete spec of your PC?
What anti-virus are you using and is it up to date?
Are your drivers up to date?

If your AV s/w is functioning OK, do you have a registry cleaner? - run it and assess your system registry operation as clogged up OS systems are are a common source of slow computers.

Are the applications loading slow ... or just typing is sluggish?

Are you using a wireless keyboard, if so it could be the batteries are low, or you are too far away from the base receiver, or possibly interference from other devices???

Good point...if its not this then run your anti virus software and spyware (presuming you've got them) also download and clean your registry with this (CCleaner). Let us know how you get on

Re: Can anyone explain why my PC is being slow?

    Has your problem been solved?

I had a similar problem with my keyboard typing slow and missing out keypresses. It would seem to read the keyboard input for 2 seconds then leave it for 2 seconds etc. I solved my problem by using the PS/2 port instead of the usb port for the keyboard.

Re: Can anyone explain why my PC is being slow?

How long's the install been for ?

If it's a new install then it is possibly down to the indexing of the hard-drives.

Also, is speedstep enabled upon the system as it might be down to the fact the system see's your not doing anything too strenuous and ramping down the speed to around 1600 Mhz which I found made my PC stutter when typing and moving the mouse.

Always worth checking for rootkits etc. I use something called sd-fix by andy manchesta.
