Strange Laptop Problem...

OK so I have a HP DV6000 series laptop that doesn't respond to pressing the power button. I replaced the cable from the motherboard to the little power board PCB but that didn't help. I then replaced the DV6000 power button board with a power button board from a DV9000 laptop and it works fine.

Thinking that the DV6000's power button board was faulty I bought a new one off of ebay that was guaranteed working from a reputable seller, however this doesn't work either.

Any idea what could be wrong ? Simply coincidence that neither of the two power button boards I have for the DV6000 work ? They appear to be in fine cosmetic condition.

How do you know for certain that the motherboard's not been toasted?

All I can suggest is, go back to ebay and buy the dv9000 power button board (see if the seller of the dv6000 will swap it for the dc9000).
