    Hi there,

Think you'll find it's a memory problem with the game itself as it likes to hog memory and causes you to hit a ceiling (2GB) and then will crash on you!!

You can find a solution here
    http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtop...ight=gig+limit

......but will have to presume that Windows 7 will work with the XP fix as opposed to the Vista fix, try it and if not then you can edit the command line for Vista instead.

Let us know how it goes

So far, no, but I'm concerned the temperature is still going up - usually it reaches some kind of equilibrium after a few minutes.

What happened when you underclocked the card?

I can't find that file he mentions... plus, does that explain my gtaIV problem?

You move the slider to the left instead of to the right

    That's very odd. Screenie?

I know mine's a normal 4870, but I can downclock to 500mhz GPU and 450 memory in CCC.

You have clicked the key to 'unlock' setting it right?

yeah... I don't think it is heat issue though - i played an hour and a half of company of heroes earlier and it was fine... and right now im on a lan game of supreme commander, whilst checking memory usage (like dingo said ) and its been playing for about 20mins (on a smaller map) and hasn't gone over half a gig of usage...

    It doesn't make sense...

EDIT: unless it is the mem usage thing on supreme commander... that makes sense but i can't find the fix file

    Re: PC crash in games

I would be amazed if you hit the 2gb limit after just 5-10 mins play of Sup Com. I've only ever hit it once and that was after 40 minutes of an 8vs.

I am now so confused....I just played an 8v map and went the whole way without going over the limit, even with 1000 unit cap..no crash or anything... .......
Earlier today I played a two on two on a different map and it crashed..could it be that that particular map was bad?
And then, that the GTAIV crash was just a random crash??

EDIT: Just played another Sup Com, 4vs and it crashed after about 30 - 40 mins, so I figure it must be the mem thing - just need to find this fix!

Have you ran Memtest? Random errors like these could well be down to memory. I've had more than my fair share of games problems which have ended up being a memory issue.

I believe the supreme commander 4gb error was fixed, you have got all the latest patches correct? I used to have 8gb installed before christmas and supcom and fa ran fine.

Try running only one stick of ram, run the games report back?

Did you say you had forged alliance? If so then it's already large address aware, so no need to patch that into the exe. It's only the original SC that needed fixing.

Does your motherboard have a 'memory hole' setting? Try enabling that.

I ran a memtest overnight and it came up with nothing, but I suppose I could run another one to make sure!

Still think it is probably just down to Windows 7 RC and its Beta drivers being unstable. There's nothing you can really do about it.
