ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

After several reinstalls of itunes, adding/removing hardware, locating proper device drivers etc etc i still cannot get my ipod touch to be seen by itunes. after plugging it in itunes freezes for 5 minutes and i still cannot see my ipod. does anyone know how to fix this? my ipod is out of warranty now as well and am pretty annoyed that i can only use it with my 32 bit laptop

not sure if you have tried it, but you could try the support forums from apple's website. you will find that common issues are always being discussed. Otherwise you could post one too. I suppose this could be just a slight glitch that should be fixed by MS or apple soon

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

I am running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate and my touch works fine, however it can at times be picky on USB ports which is odd and never works via a USB hub, even one that is powered. When it has issues with the port it freezes up much like you mention. I think this is an ipod issue as my other USB devices never have this issue. I have also tried several cables since we have a number of ipods at home. The touch is the only one that does this however, 2 nanos and a classic have no such problem

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

well i've tried 3 different USB ports (one directly in back of motherboard and 2 on front panel) and neither of them work. itunes freezes for a bit then it unfreezes and doesn't see the ipod. device manager verifies it is plugged in and working and various registry tricks i've tried show that itunes is detecting the ipod (says the driver is not upto date and cannot run the ipod) so itunes must be seeing it however it doesn't want to show up for syncing etc. might try some more usb ports when i get home and see if thats the problem

Not very helpful to the OP, but my iPod touch works fine on W7 RC (64bit). Maybe it's something to do with the generation of Touch iPod? What generation do you have?

I am assuming that you have installed the x64 version of ITunes, I know now it defaults to the x64 from an OS check but a few months back you had to follow a link to the x64 release. I tried installing from a saved copy of the executable some time back and didnt check, it was the x86 version and bitched to hell during the install before it failed, that was a very old version which didnt seem to check

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

yeah i've got the 64 bit version downloaded. last resort is to try and restore my ipod to see if i can get it to work that way. its a first gen itouch, i did have some problems with it on vista ultimate 64 as well but i could sync and update fairly regularly still. really stumped as to what could be causing it

It does sound like you have an issue with your build as it can see it one moment and not the next. Has it ever worked on this build?

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

it worked perfectly fine on the same build with windows vista ultimate 64bit, its just since upgrading to win 7 pro x64 that the issues have started. i'm assuming there is some conflict going on somewhere that i am unaware of thats causing itunes not to see the ipod when its connected, but as to what i've got no idea. managed to rule out internet security so far

edit: looks like i'm gonna have to start again with the rig, good job not had it in long so starting from scratch isn't going to be too much of an issue, plus gives me an excuse to buy another 640 caviar black and set them up in a RAID-0

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

right after completely reinstalling windows on a new hard drive i've discovered that its kaspersky internet security 2010 which is causing the issue with my ipod. itunes finds it perfectly fine when its completely turned off but when its on and allowing all the possible itunes applications and services it still doesn't find it. any suggestions on how to fix this so they can both work at the same time?

Re: ipod touch doesnt work work win 7 pro x64

sorry fella but I am using Windows 7 x64 with the latest versions of itunes and kaspersky internet security 2010. I am however not using the kaspersky firewall, its disabled in favour of the default windows one. I have recently upgraded from the RC to the Home Premium retail copy and still works fine. I was using the alpha of kaspersky which was a bit buggy but have bought the final 2010 release which is running fine, just found the firewall too much like hardwork pestering me every five seconds
