Am I just being thick..

Ok, my monitor, a 19" Hyundai ImageQuest monitor has a DVI connection on the back of it..However I cant seem to fit the DVI connector that goes on the VGA cable to the monitor.

Do I need another type of connector, or am I just being really, really, really retarded and I should be slapped in the face with a wet fish called Betsy?

If your monitor is DVI only and you have a VGA cable, you are going to either need a DVI Cable or a DVI-VGA convertor. Either that or you are trying to connect a male to a male end or female to female?

I have the converter me bob thing..I have looked at the connectors on month the monitor and the converter itself....nd erm..is there a difference? lol

It won't work - it's a DVI-D fitting on the back of your screen. Very few monitors accept a analogue signal over DVI.
The adaptor is for your graphics card -> Dsub for CRTs and TFTs with a Dsub in.

What you're asking doesn't make sense. It's not a connector / cable issue - it's a signal one.

You have a DVI-D input on your TFT. This accepts digital signals only.
The converter you're talking about maps the pins from a digital & analoge output on your graphics card (DVI-I), to the correct pins on a Dsub cable.

If you have a D-sub out on your graphics card, and a DVI-D input on your TFT, you're out of luck. You can't connect them without some specialist (and expensive) ADC based equipment.
If there is something else you're trying to do - let us know what it is and we'll try to explain how to do it

I think I have got myself or you confused.

There is a connection on the back of the monitor look looks the same/ similiar to that on an 8800GTShere.

I assumed, maybe wrongly now..that I could connect my gfx card, to the monitor, using the same connector/ coverter on a normal cable?

I am not PC thick which I think I have come across, so am I missing something, or is it just not possible?

Then you're trying to plug a female socket into a female socket and as much as the images in my head work <>, sadly on a PC, that's not going to happen

EDIT: If you have a VGA cable with two male connectors, you'll need two of these;



Easier still is just to buy a DVI cable

If the DVI adapter has a connection that looks like that ^, then it wont plug in

If the DVI adapter looks like the image I posted then it should go straight on in, no problems at all but if you only have a VGA cable (usually two blue ends ) you'll need two DVI adapters.

EDIT: Looking a bit closer at that Hyundai image, I can't see any pinholes around the "slot" area of the DVI port - that's your issue, it's a DVI-D port - ignore all of the above.

"Most" DVI cables are DVI-I

I didn't realise (until I saw the image) what was going on - the thought of the female/female thing blew my mind
