    Unstable pc

Running on stock settings my brothers new pc is not quite stable, crashes when booting windows usually, it freezes.

I have it on stock settings, with ram timings and voltages set, ETC. It should be working fine.

I am getting him to run Prime and memtest for me to check that those two are fine, if so any other ideas?

    System is:

    545x2 Phenom II at stock
1600mhz DDR3 OCZ obsidian, running at 1333 due to crappy IMC
    785 AM3 Motherboard Gigabyte i think
    320GB Samsung F1 hard drive
    Onboard gfx
    500w Silverpower PSU.

    Re: Unstable pc

I know this may sound really dumb, but check(replace) the battery on the motherboard, I resently bought a motherboard and the battery was dated 93! It kept locking up, then failed completely replace the battery and now its working great. I wonder if china is "recycling" batteries. Also test your memory with memtest86+, try unclocking your memory and see if that makes things more stable.

    Re: Unstable pc

I have him running prime and a check using HD tune atm. Will get him to try memtest. I ahve the memory on stock settings atm with the rest of it to try and get things sorted. Making him run the startup repair too, as it never crashes at any time but startup.

    Re: Unstable pc

Will have to try my own then, we both run am3 so it's handy, but why is it only unstable on boot?

    Re: Unstable pc

If your system is unstable you should look ino testing the memory with memtest86+. Even if the RAM is newly purchased there's still the chance that one of the DIMM's could be faulty. In addition, make sure that the CPU heatsink is seated correctly, and that the termperatures of internal components aren't unusually high.

    Re: Unstable pc

Try and strip it down a little, single stick of ram etc. You mention you have an AM3 rig yourself so maybe take the mem over to your machine and try it in there too.

Dodgy solder joint on some piece of hardware, ie contact is bad when cold but after it warms a little its expanded and thus fine?

    Re: Unstable pc

In a lot of occasion, the inter-connection between each components within the PC are not properly connected. i.e. the connectivity between RAM and Motherboard may not connected properly. Therefore, your problem may be solve by just simply remove the RAM and Processor from your Motherboard, then put them back again. This may strengthen the connectivity between the components mentioned above. Hope it help!
